Evangelina “Angie” Marie Ramirez Herrera, 70, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, in Roswell, NM. There will be a viewing at 8:00 am – 9:30 am, Rosary at 9:30 am, and the Funeral mass at 10:00 am all at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. On September 14, 1953, Angie was born to Concepcion, “Chon”, and Manuela Ramirez in Roswell, NM. Family was always the driving force in her life. As one of eight children, she took pride in taking care of her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed cooking for them and teaching them how to dance. Growing up in a big family with numerous siblings and cousins in Fort Stockton, TX, as well as working with her family in the cotton fields, the foundation of her work ethic, caring personality, and strong family values was built. Angie graduated from Goddard High School in 1971 and worked at the Roswell Boys and Girls club for several years. She grew up in a family of faith and was involved in church activities, she even competed in the St. John’s Fiesta pageant and took 2nd place! After high school she worked at Christmas by Krebs while attending ENMU-R to obtain her Associate of Arts Degree. In the meantime, she met the love of her life, Hernando, “Nando”, Herrera, at a dance. They enjoyed spending time at dances and hanging out at Cahoon Park on Sunday afternoons. Their love story began in 1974 and was filled with many dates at the Red Crow where they shared her favorite, Cherry-lime Coke. Angie enjoyed their movie and pizza nights, even though her baby sister and her friends had to tag along. Nando decided he wanted her to be his forever best friend and proposed to her after dating for two years. They married on July 17, 1976, at St. John’s Catholic Church and started their family three years later. Angie worked in the offices at Sears Robuck and later as a teller at Sunwest Bank. She eventually became a teacher’s aide at Pecos Elementary and Washington Avenue where she was in charge of the HOST program. After years of growing to love making a difference in the lives of her students, she decided to go back to school to become an elementary school teacher. She attended and received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and taught at Chisolm and Missouri Elementary. She worked for the Roswell Independent School District for 35 years before retiring. She missed her kids and couldn’t stay away and returned to the school district as a substitute teacher for several more years before having to retire for good. Angie loved to spend time with her family and after retirement her and her hubby enjoyed traveling to play her chi-ching machines at the casino and attend concerts. One of her favorite things to do was listen to music and she loved that she was able to see her favorite artists such Little Joe y La Familia, Kane Brown, and even Pit Bull. They attended over 65 concerts in their time together. Some of the things that brought her the most joy was spending time with her family on camping trips and vacations to California, Arizona, Washington, and the Bahamas. Hobbies she enjoyed were reading, crocheting, and watching her husband, children and grandchildren play sports. Angie was very proud of her children for their accomplishments and loved them unconditionally. Her pride and joy were her grandkids Gabbers, Iya, Chulo, Rylee Bear, Elena, Bel, and Mariana Banana, Iyla and Ella. Angie’s life was filled with many joyous occasions, but the last six years were very difficult in the battle she had to fight. Angie was tiny but mighty. Her faith, hope, and trust in the Lord was what kept her so strong in her battle. Her resilience will continue to be an inspiration to everyone she knew and loved. Romans 12:12 - Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Angie are, the love of her life, Hernando Rey Herrera, daughter Senaida Milliron and David , daughter Serena Herrera, son Hernando Rey Herrera, Jr. and Roxann, grandchildren Gabrielle Herrera, Isacc Herrera, Bradyn Milliron, Rylee Milliron, Elena Prieto and Luie, Maribel Gallegos, Mariana Gallegos, great granddaughters Iyla and Ella Prieto, siblings Fred and Terry Ramirez, MaryLou Burrola, Daniel and Debbie Ramirez, Frank Ramirez, Jimmy and Joyce Ramirez, Mike and Helen Matta, Chon and Georgina Ramirez, Victor and Rebecca Ramirez, Jett and Zana Pilley, and many more nieces, nephews, and cousins.
