Maria (Memo) Hidalgo

MARIA (MEMO) HIDALGO, 85, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Maria’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. SERVICES: There will be a Viewing for Maria on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home 2609 S Main St, Roswell, NM 88203. A Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. On September 22, 1934, Maria was born to Marcelina Montes in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She married the love of her life, Albert Hidalgo, Sr. on October 10, 1952, who preceded her in death. Maria was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Maria volunteered at the hospital for a few years in the surgical department. When she was younger, she was a volunteer attendant at St. Mary’s Hospital, and she was later hired as a regular employee. She was awarded Best mom, Best memo, and Best mother-in-law. Red roses were her most favorite rose of all. Maria’s favorite pastime was playing and being with her grandkids and family. She enjoyed playing bingo, being with her family, playing nickels, and playing Loteria. Maria was a point guard on a basketball team in her younger years. She loved playing basketball, and when she found out her grandkids played the same sport, she got happy and excited! Maria was one of the best players on her team. She loved to watch basketball on TV, but most of all, she loved to watch her grandkids play. Memo loved when her grandson, Frank, Jr. won the State Championship of New Mexico for Roswell High School. He dedicated the game and his Championship ring to his Mempis and Memo. Maria loved them dearly and was very proud of them! She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known Maria. SURVIVORS: Those left to eternally cherish and treasure Maria’s loving memory are her children: Maria Christina Hidalgo, Rita De La O and husband Frank, Anita Malacara and Husband Daniel, Henry Hidalgo, Julian Hidalgo, Albert Hidalgo Jr. and wife Nancy; son-in-law, Ruben Sanchez Sr.; twenty-one grandchildren: Frank De La O Jr. and fiancé Cene, Bianca De La O, Cristian De La O, Daniel Malacara Jr., Joe Albert Malacara, and wife Liz, Diego Malacara, Eric Sanchez, Monica Ramirez and husband Andrew, Ruben Sanchez Jr., Veronica Flores, Erica Macneil, Hannah Brooks and husband Tyler, Albert Hidalgo III and wife Stephanie, Yvette Hidalgo, Steve Albert Hidalgo, Angela De La O Gonzalez and husband Gustavo, Vicente De La O Jr., Jesus De La O, Jeronimo Amador, Javier Amador, and Anita Amador (twenty-one total grandkids); thirty great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as her close friends, who are all the staff and residents of Mission Arch from the Sunshine Unit. PRECEDED: Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Hidalgo, Sr.; children: Maria Amparo Sanchez and Santiago Esteban (Steve) Hidalgo; and her mother, Marcelina Montes Reyes. HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Honored to serve as Honorary Pallbearers are all of Maria’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. PALLBEARERS: Frank De La O, Jr., Cristian De La O, Bianca De La O, Eric Sanchez, Daniel Malacara Jr., Joe Albert Malacara, Diego Malacara, Albert Hidalgo III, and Steve Albert Hidalgo. The family wants to extend a special “Thank You” to all the staff at Mission Arch, all the doctors, nurses, and all the medical staff who ever treated Maria. The family will be meeting at 1210 E. Holland Drive after the funeral services for a reception. “Mom, You were a woman like no other, a wife, a mom, a “Memo” too! That is the legacy we have from you. You gave me light, nurtured me, taught me, dressed me, fought for me, held me, kissed me, but most importantly loved me unconditionally. There are not enough words I can say to describe just how important you were to me, and what a powerful influence you continue to be for all of us. You gave your best, now the time has come for you to rest. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I’ll never part. God has you in His keeping, and I have you in my heart. Mom, I miss and love you so much. There will never be a mom as great as you. I love you so much, mom. Te quiero mucho, mom! Tu hija, Rita.”
