Alvino Medina

Alvino B. Medina went to be with our heavenly father on Sunday, October 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born on May 1, 1921, to Prescillano Medina and Sista Barela, in Roswell, NM. He married the love of his life, Frances Medina, on March 2, 1946, in Roswell, NM. They celebrated seventy years together. Alvino served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945, receiving various medals, including two Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. After serving in the Army, they lived in Roswell for approximately 20 years before moving to Salinas, CA in 1967 where he worked at Mann’s Packing Company until his retirement in 1988, when he moved back home to Roswell. Alvino remained very active with different hobbies after his retirement. His favorite past time was working in his yard, caring for his pomegranate tree and playing cards. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and entertained his children and grandchildren with his many talents. Preceding Alvino in death were his parents and all his brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving child of nine (9) brothers and sisters. Also preceding him in death were his son-in-law, Cylvinio Cobos, and daughters-in-law Hope Medina and Virginia Medina. Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Frances Medina of the family home, his children, Terri Cobos, of Lomita, California; Richard Medina, Juanita Archuleta (Serafin); and Mary Tomas of Roswell, New Mexico and Jerry Medina (Sherry) of Albertsville, Alabama. Also surviving Alvino are his grandchildren: Daniel, Cylvinio and Christine Cobos; Richard Medina Jr., Stephanie Cordova, Frank and Matthew Medina; Lorraine Trujillo, Renee Casarez and Crystal Archuleta; Jeanelle Carrasco; Cecilia Prince and Miguel Silva. Alvino left behind 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He also left behind his beloved dog, Bingo. Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Cobos, Christine Cobos, Ryan Trujillo, Lorraine Trujillo, Michael Casarez and Adan Cordova. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren. A special thank you goes to all the nurses at Eastern NM Medical Center for the love and compassion shown to our Daddy and to our Family. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, 9:00 AM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM, also at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. Burial will be at General Douglas McBride Cemetery with Pastor Savino Sanchez of Church on the Move officiating.
