Amelia Barela

Amelia Barela was born in Hagerman, NM, on Jan 1, 1943. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lutisia Gonzales Barela; father, Tomas Gomez Barela; brothers: Ernesto (Ernie) Barela and Roberto (Bobby) Barela. Living family consists of Tom Barela Jr. of Hagerman, NM, Godfrey Barela of Lovington, NM, Nora Gamboa of Las Cruces, NM, Linel Barela of Arizona, Henry Barela of Roswell, NM; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. Amelia was an ordained minister, earning her minister credentials from the Assemblies’ of God in Springfield, MO. She ministered at various churches, missions and Bible School’s through-out the United States. During Amelia’s life, she was a Bible College Instructor at Southern Arizona Bible College for several years, a missionary in Spain for a period of nine years. While in Spain, she was a Bible College instructor at the Bible School in La Cordoba Spain. Amelia graduated in 1963 from Hagerman High School. She graduated from The Latin American Bible Institute in 1970. Amelia earned her Associate in Arts Degree from Southwestern Assemblies in 1974. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Southwestern Assemblies in 1981, and a Master of Arts Degree from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Springfield, MO., in 1986. Amelia was ordained in 1987 as an Assembly of God Minister and kept her credentials throughout her life. While in La Cordoba, Spain, Amelia attended a Baptist church and was a blessing to the church. She made a bridge between her, the congregation and the pastor and brought changes to the church by God’s will. Amelia was loved by her Directors, co-workers and many of the students. Her love for Spain never left her. Amelia’s only regret was that she had not applied to receive her Missionary appointment much earlier in her lifespan. She would have loved being a missionary anywhere in the world, although her love for Spain and Mexico never faltered. Her love of God took her many directions and she was willing to serve in any capacity she was called to. God took her home to a glorious place in heaven, on Thursday, August 16, 2018, where her life is now complete. Funeral Services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Hagerman Cemetery.
