Antonio Jose Gonzales Sr., 75, passed away on October 3, 2023, in Roswell NM. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Antonio’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. There will be a Viewing on Friday October 13, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Rosary to follow at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Saturday October 14, 2023, at 10:00 am with Pastor Susan Torres officiating. Interment will follow at McBride Veterans Memorial in Roswell NM. Reception to follow at the American Legion Hall 1620 N. Montana. On December 7, 1947, Antonio Gonzales was born to Antonio Luis Gonzales and Romona Ortiz Gonzales in Magdalena NM. He attended high school at Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque NM and graduated on June 1, 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army Green Beret Special Forces on August 21, 1967. During the time he was serving his country he was awarded a National Defense Service Metal. He was married to Brigitte Marie Holloway on July 11, 1969, in Bad Tolz Germany. He attended Assumption Catholic Church. He was a member of Elks Lodge #969 and a previous member of the Moose Lodge. Prior to retirement he worked as a Correctional Officer at Roswell Correctional Center. He also worked for Homestake Uranium Mining Company in Grants, NM. Antonio’s favorite thing to say to everyone was smile. He loved attending the Elks and Moose lodge and loved reciting their rituals. He loved to tell his children and grandchildren stories about his days in the service when he was a paratrooper. Antonio loved to tell everyone how he met his wife and how much he loved her. Antonio loved camping, fishing, carpentry, golfing, and cooking. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Antonio are his wife of 54 years Brigitte Marie Gonzales, daughter Romona Gonzales, son Antonio Jose Gonzales Jr. (and wife Amy), daughter Michelle Richardson (and husband Terry), daughter Tonia Montoya (and husband Fernando), son Mathew Gonzales (and wife Rebecca). His sister Geneva Chavez. 20 Grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Antonio is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Antonio Luis Gonzales and Romona Ortiz Gonzales. Siblings Clorindo, Lucario, Felisita, Arturo, John, Fred, Rosie, and Virginia. Blessed to be chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are Anthony Rains, Wesley Craig, Xzavier Sanchez, and Logan Eberhart. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Antonio Jose Gonzales Jr., Matthew Gonzales, Ronald Holloway, Alonzo Richardson, Harley Gonzales, Tommy Saenz, Matthew Gonzales Jr., and Joseph Gonzales. The family of Antonio wishes to extend sincere thanks to UNM Cancer Center Interventional Radiology and Gentiva Hospice.
