August B. Ybarra

August B. Ybarra, 100, passed away on January 6, 2016. He was born December 26, 1915, to August Bray and Elizabeth Galvez in Galveston, Texas. August passed after a brief illness at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He celebrated his 100th birthday with his family and caring nursing staff on the eighth floor. Enjoying a full life, especially with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, August was a devoted and loving family man. Married to Veronica Gannon Ybarra on April 5, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, August and his wife enjoyed sixty-six wonderful years together, until her passing on January 15, 2007. A veteran of the US Navy, he retired as an MMC. During his time in the military, August served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. After 20 years of serving his country, he became the head custodian for the Chula Vista School District. Following his retirement, August spent his free time fishing, cycling, and working on cars. August was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Ybarra; and son, Dennis Ybarra. Those left behind to carry on his heritage are daughter, Elizabeth DiMarino (Tony) of Colorado; grandsons: Michael McFarlane (Leslie) of California, and Nic Ybarra (Andi) of Texas; great-granddaughters: Stephanie Dennison (Hunter) of Colorado, Ashley McFarlane of California, Jessica and Abbey of Texas. Also surviving are, daughter-in-law, Lynne Ybarra; granddaughter, Melissa; and great-great grandchildren: Jackson and Brantley of Colorado. A rosary will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 7:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 14, 2016, 10:00 AM at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish. Pallbearers will be Michael McFarlane, Nic Ybarra, Tony DiMarino, Rito Delgado, Daniel Stephens, and David Heck. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project or Southeast New Mexico Veteran’s Transportation Network in August’s name, or to a charity of your choice.
