Barbara Garcia Otero

Beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara Garcia Otero, 89, of Capitan, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in her home on July 24, 2016. She was born in Carrizozo, New Mexico, on May 24, 1927, to Abran C. Garcia and Sarah Padilla Garcia. She met the love of her life and they were married 63 years until his passing in 2011. Barbara adored her husband, Miguel. A very affectionate and caring person, Barbara found her pleasure spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked as a cosmetologist for 60 plus years. Barbara enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She was very close to all her sisters. Preceding Barbara in death were her husband, Miguel M Otero; son: Cruz E. Otero; parents: Abran C. Garcia and Sarah Padilla Garcia; brothers: Julian Garcia, Roman Garcia; and a sister, Josie Cordova. Those honored to carry on Barbara’s heritage are her sons: Miguel Otero of Capitan, NM, his children: Mario Otero and wife, Tammy, their chilren: Byrdee, Mario JR, Joziah, Alyssa Otero, Contessa Dalton, Frances Otero Tapia and husband, Gabriel, Daniel Tapia, Sean Otero Tapia, and Jaycee Tapia; Charles Otero of Roswell, NM; and children: Barbie Otero, and her children: Carlos Montez JR, Elijah Montez, William Otero and children: Manuel Archuleta, Neveah Otero, and Isaiah Otero; Johnny Otero SR and wife, Joann of Ruidoso Downs, NM; their children: Eric Otero, Johnny Otero Jr and children: Justine Herrera, and her chilren: Esmiralda, Ariselie, Johnny Angel, Tammy, Evanescence, and Violet; Adrian Otero; and his children: Brianna, Adrian JR, Samantha, Anthony, and Aricea; Adam Perez; and his daughter Destiny; David Soto; Melinda Ford and husband, Mark, their children: Marcos, Serenity Martinez and Brenden Ford; Richard Otero of Roswell, NM; and his children: Sandra, Freddy, Richard Jr, Taylor, and Miya. She is also survived by the family of her son Cruz E. Otero who passed July 7, 2016, his wife, Irene Otero of Albuquerque, NM; their children: Denise I Rodriguez, Cruz R. Otero and Fiancee, Cassey Griego, Miguel A. Otero and wife, Dessy; Dominic Otero; her sisters: Ida Garcia of Roswell, NM; Mary Romero of Ruidoso Downs, NM; Minnie Barela of Lovington, NM; and Dora Castillo of Lubbock, TX; a brother; Tony Garcia of Roswell, NM; and several nephews and nieces. Viewing will be Wednesday, July 27, 2016, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rosary to follow at 6:00 PM. A Burial Service will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016, 1:00 PM at Capitan Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband, Miguel M Otero. Honorary Pallbearers: Tony Garcia, Sgt. Merlin Sena, William Otero, Adam Perez, Johnny Otero, JR, Adrian Otero, JR, Dominic Otero, Cruzito Otero, and Miguel Otero, JR. Pallbearers will be: Johnny Otero, SR, Eric Otero, Adrian Otero, Eddie Garcia, Brianna Otero, and Frances Otero Tapia. A special tribute is given to Eric Otero, Cynthia Lucero, and Inez Lucero, who were with her every day, all day, the entire time she was hospitalized, until the time of her passing.
