Bernard "Bernie" Louie Link

Louie Bernard “Bernie” Link passed away on June 29, 2026, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with Bernie’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. There will be a celebration of life at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 2801 W. 4th St. in Roswell, New Mexico, on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Tom Blake officiating. On November 4, 1945, Bernie was born to Louie Glen Link and Lorene Busby Link in Elida, New Mexico. He attended Roswell High School and soon after that enlisted in the Army Nation Guard where he served 6 years with an honorable discharge in 1962. On January 12 1980, Bernie married Kathi Blake at St. Andrews Church in Roswell, New Mexico. God blessed this union for over forty-six years. Bernie was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he loved and was loved by his church family. He worked for Thom McCann Shoe Company for approximately twenty-five years. He owned and managed shoe stores in Lubbock and Austin, Texas. The family moved back to Roswell in 1994 to be close to and care for aging parents. Bernie went to work for the Roswell Daily Record Newspaper in advertising sales and worked for them for fifteen years. He loved that job, his co-workers and clients and he was loved by them in return. He earned the first employee of the month and employee of the year awards before retiring in 2009. Bernie was a “people person” with a bent toward perfectionism so the job was a perfect fit. He was an avid fisherman. Kathi can remember very few vacations that didn’t include a lake and a hook in the water. He spent some of the best time of his life in retirement fishing, golfing, and target shooting with his bff, Ron Smith. Bernie was an avid football fan, cheering for the Cowboys for decades and then switching to the Broncos, Poor Guy…Bernie was a multi-faceted artist. He made custom knives from scratch for several years, beautiful beaded jewelry, impressive leather work from holsters and knife sheathes, to wall art. He enjoyed working with wood as well and made an amazing coat rack out of a knotty pine log among other things. Bernie will be sorely missed by his wife Kathi, son Louie, Daughter-in-law Emaley, grandchildren Matea Rhodes, Payton Hopson, Mason Hopson, Madeline Link and Lillian Link. His first wife and good friend, mother of his daughter Monica Connie Stutz, son-in-law Michael Rhodes, his “other Mother” and friend Eloise Blake, Ron Smith his brothers in law Tom, Blake, and Scott and Helen Blake and our Georgia family, and many well loved cousins, and good friend Dan Blount. He was preceded in death by his daughter Monica Renee Link Rhodes on December 15, 2024, his parents, his step father Wayne Grogan, sisters Barbara Mikesell and Joy Wickin and her husband Mike and his sister in law Marina Blake on June 18, 2026. I am so grateful for our friends who have rallied around our family with tremendous love and support. AA is a wonderful life changing and lifesaving program where you meet forever friends and it work, it really does. I would like to thank Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory for all their help in making this process a bit easier. Oh Bernie, love of my life, you are with Jesus now. Save me a place.
