Bertha Vargas

Bertha Vargas, 86, passed away on Thursday, December 7th, 2023, in Roswell, NM, surrounded by her family and closest loved ones. The memorial service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Monday, December 18th, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Funeral services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 19th, at 11 am, with Eugene De Los Santos officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Bertha was born on October 5th, 1937, to Esther Molina and Jose Acosta in Aldama, Chihuahua. She was the beloved wife of Genaro Vargas, whom she married on February 14th, 1968, in Praxedis G. Guerrero, Distrito Bravo, Chihuahua. Bertha was a member of El Calvario Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for several years. She enjoyed participating in benevolence activities for other church members and also performing service duties in the kitchen for church gatherings and events. Before retirement, Bertha worked as a head cook for several years at Los Ranchos restaurant in addition to cooking for large groups of people in the sheep-shearing industry. She had many hobbies, including sewing, crocheting, planting, and gardening. Bertha was an avid gardener and took pride in her work as she planted and maintained many roses, plants, and trees in her garden every year. She was known as a kind, loving, humble, supportive, and strong Christian woman who loved her family deeply. Bertha will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Those left to treasure and cherish memories of Bertha eternally are her children: Rosa Rodriguez, Paz Vargas, Ramona Hernandez, Vicente Vargas, Griselda Olivas, Joel Vargas, and Marisol Vargas; her grandchildren: Erika, Junior, and Roger Rodriguez, Myra, Roxanna, and Jose Miguel Vaquera, Bertha and Ramiro Hernandez, Joeanna, Johnny, Luis, Samantha, and Brandon Olivas, Aydelin, Joella, and Persayes Vargas; as well as 31 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and her faithful companion, Mia. Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, Genaro Vargas; parents: Esther and Jose Acosta; her son, Genaro Vargas; and her grandson, Stoarmy Vargas. Blessed to be chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are Joel Vargas, Ariel Vargas, Jose Miguel Vaquera, Johnny Olivas, Jose Rodriguez, and Jaylon Cloud. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Vicente Vargas, Ramiro Hernandez, Luis Olivas, Paul Talamantes, Juan Carlos Najera, Efren Vargas, Jordan Cloud, and Adrian Vega. With sincere gratitude, there are not enough words to fully express our heartfelt thanks for the sympathy, love, and support that was extended to the Vargas family during this difficult time. Bertha’s tribute was written in her honor by her family. When I lost you I wish I could see you one more time, Come walking through the door… But I know that’s impossible, I will hear your voice no more. I know you can feel my tears, And you don’t want me to cry. Yet my heart is broken because, I can’t understand why, Someone so precious had to die. I pray that God will give me strength.
