Carl W. Brown Jr.

Carl Wayne Brown Jr. was born December 24, 1942, in Winfield, Kansas. He went by his middle name “Wayne” all of his life, to distinguish between his father and himself. He was 6’4” tall and lanky, weighing 200 lbs. At 17 years of age, he and some of his friends enlisted in the National Guard. He went to Fort Leonardwood, MO, for basic training and boot camp. He loved Country and Western Music and was what he listened to always! He would always tell you what kind of airplane was flying over Roswell. He and his dog Pepper would go out to the airport nearly every day to look at the airplanes that flew in. One of his loves for entertainment was to make up his own plans and build remote-controlled airplanes and go fly them. He was an excellent flyer and taught many others to fly. His other little dog Amos is a lover and gave him hugs and kisses every day. Wayne was sick for quite some time and on Memorial Day, he went to the emergency room at Lovelace Hospital with multiple health problems. He was there for a week and cared for by Dr. Rader. Wayne wanted to exercise and get better, so Radar sent him to Casa Maria for therapy for 21 days. There he met a young nurse named “Ashley”. Ashley gave him the enduring term of “Poppie” and all others followed suit and he was known as Carl “Poppie” Brown. From there he went into Mission Arch and met his personal nurse “Virginia” who took care of him until his death. What an outstanding an outstanding nurse, you couldn’t help but fall in love with her and her personality. Bless Virginia for all her loving care. The Brown family would like to thank his nurses from Gentiva Hospice, Jennifer and Roberta. On June 4, 1962, he married Barbara Jean Bilyeu of Arkansas City, Kansas, they had three sons and were married for 62 years. Wayne was employed by Estes International of Roswell. He retired from there but didn’t like retirement and went to Pollard School Bus and finally retired in 2023. Oh, how he loved those little school kids, it would make his day! Carl is survived by his sons: Jeffery Earl Brown and wife Alyson Barret-Brown of Amarillo, TX, Terry Lee Brown and his children Matthew Allen Brown of Capitan, NM, and Danica Renee Brown of Billings, MT, and Stacy Linn Brown and wife Jeannine Murray of Mancos, CO, and children Raven Murray of Mancos, CO, Devon Brown of TX, Anthony Joseph Brown of Arkansas City, KS, and Wolf Golden Brown of Mancos, CO; and brother, Charlie Brown and wife Karen Brown and their children David, Steven and Melody of Aurora, CO. Carl’s tribute was lovingly written by his family. .
