Carlos Fierro Urquides Sr. (“Charlie Blue”), a loving husband, father, son, and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. SERVICES: A Funeral Service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, Friday, April 12, 2019, 10:00 AM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Carlos was born on the family’s homestead farm in Loving, NM, to Adan Sosa Fierro and Sofia Fierro Urquides on September 23, 1929. At the age of seven, Carlos’ family moved East of Roswell, to the Russell Farm, where they lived and worked for several years. In 1950, he married the love of his life, Frances La Riva Alvarado and moved to town. Carlos was employed at Walker Air Force base, at the Officers Club. Later, he transferred to the printing crew, which became his lifelong trade until his retirement. In 1961, Carlos moved to Melbourne, Florida, and worked at Patrick Air Force Base during the launching of the space program at Cape Canaveral. After four years, he and his family returned to Roswell. Once back in Roswell, Carlos again began painting at W.A.F.B., until the base was closed and eventually the housing was sold to the public. He then began to work for Gordon Patton at Patton Construction until his retirement. The family would like to thank Mr. Gordon Patton, Wallace Massey, and Jerry Castleman for the love, respect, and friendship they always had for “Charlie Blue”! A true servant of the Lord, Carlos’ passions were serving the Lord and sharing the Word of God with whomever he might be conversing with and praising the Lord while strumming his guitar and singing old-time Gospel songs, both in English and Spanish. Carlos had patience and talent for teaching his children and grandchildren his favorite games, which were chess, checkers, and dominoes. He would make them feel, at a very young age, their potential. They always felt safe and loved by their grandpa “Bucky.“ The family would like to thank all those at Hospice and Meals on Wheels, for the love, care, and comfort provided by them to all their staff. A “Special Thanks” to Anita Marrujo and Grace Aragon. Also, the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Chaplain Tim Arlet for taking time to bless Carlos with his guitar and song, even though his senses were so diminished, Carlos’ hands and feet tried to keep with the rhythm. The joy this brought to Carlos was priceless. Again, thank you, Tim and Hospice. Thank you, Pastor Mike Bush and all those at Trinidad Community Baptist Church for the love they showed Carlos. Another “Special Thanks” to Jessie and Martha Garcia for the love they always showed Carlos in treating him as he was their own father. SURVIVORS: Carlos is survived by his wife, Frances Alvarado La Riva Urquides; daughter, Susie Urquides Caraveo and husband Louie of Midland, TX.; four sons: Carlos Urquides Jr. and wife Siria, Ernest Urquides and wife Gena Nearburg, Michael Urquides, and Fernando Urquides and wife Geriann, all of Roswell; Carlos was also blessed with twenty-three grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Preceded: Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Adan and Sofia Urquides; brothers: Alex and Fernando Urquides; two sons: Leo and Robert Urquides. Pallbearers: Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Kevin Breaux, Mike Urquides, Marc Nielsen, Ernie Urquides, Ron Church, and Isaac Urquides. Carlos’ tribute was written in his honor by his family.
