Cecilia Nieves Urban August 5, 1943 – January 8, 2024 On January 8th, 2024, Cecilia Nieves Urban, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her home in Dexter, New Mexico. Cecilia was born on August 5, 1943, to Tomas and Teresita Fresquez in Capitan, NM. She joins in death her husband Johnnie Urban, sisters Betty Quiroz, Ramona Miller, and Maria “Teve” Garcia. She is survived by her brother Tomas Fresquez Jr. and wife Sally Fresquez. Cecilia and Johnnie were joined in holy matrimony on June 1, 1963, and celebrated 52 years of marriage. Cecilia loved the simple things in life like spending time with her family, playing Solitaire tournament on Facebook, watching Days of Our Lives and Lifetime or her “dead” movies as she would jokingly call them. She and Johnnie had 5 beautiful children: Mateo and wife Hilda Carrasco (Austin, TX), Sylvia and Husband Rudy Calderon (Artesia, NM), Tony and wife Sandra Urban (Roswell, NM), Christina Urban (Dexter, NM residing with her mother), and Sandra and husband Thomas Milles (Dexter, NM). Throughout the years, Cecilia was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. She was also fortunate to have many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved to be surrounded by. Cecilia was a long-time custodian at the Dexter Post Office for over 25 years and was honored to be a member of the Dexter community and lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church. Despite her diagnosis of lung cancer, she prevailed against the disease and was in remission for 8 years before it returned. Upon passing, she continued to remain strong with the help of her loving family. Not only was she a fighter, but she was also a woman of faith and opened her arms and her home wide to the world embracing all without hesitation or judgement. Cecilia will be missed by many, but her legacy, unwavering kindness and generosity will live on forever, being a guiding light for us all. Those who were blessed to know Cecilia would all agree she was a pocket-sized bundle of feistiness who could light up a room with her smile and warm hearts with her personality. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary also at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will occur on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dexter, NM. A Burial immediately follows at the Hagerman Cemetery in Hagerman, NM where Cecilia will once again be reunited with her lifelong soulmate. Pall Bearers for the service are: Mark Carrasco, Jeffery Carrasco, Matthew Carrasco, Johnathan Carrasco, Sean Rodriguez, Anthony Urban, Gabriel Rodriguez, Gregory Rodriguez and Kaiden Milles.
