Obituary for Consuelo Sanchez Funeral services for Consuelo Sanchez, 80, of Roswell will be held at 10 am Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home with Elder Alonzo Chavira officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation for Consuelo will be from 8 am - 8 pm Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at Anderson-Bethany. Consuelo passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Consuelo was born to Lorenzo Mendoza and Susanita Montoya Mendoza on October 9, 1926 in San Patricio, NM. She lost her mother at the age of twelve years and raised her younger brothers and sister. She and Erminio Sanchez were married Dec. 7, 1944; he preceded her in death March 4, 1998. After she married, Consuelo raised her own ten children while being co-owner of Sanchez Grocery Store from 1945 to 1970. Consuelo lived in Roswell for sixty-two years and was a Jehovah’s Witness. Consuelo was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She lead a very busy life but was able to find time to play not only with her children, when they were young, but also her grandkids. Consuelo was a kind, patient, peaceful, loving mother and grandmother, and was always ready to listen to her family. Consuelo is survived by her children, Rose Herrera and husband, Henry, of Roswell, Joe Sanchez and wife, Irene, of Whittier, CA, Lloyd Sanchez and wife, Mary, of Albuquerque, Priscilla Melendez and husband, Pilar, of Hobbs, Bernice (Nina) Grijalva and husband, Jesse, Grace Sanchez and husband, Fernando, Elmo Sanchez and wife, Jennifer, Velma Candelaria, Terry Martinez and husband, Benjamin Sr., and Elizabeth Sanchez, all of Roswell; thirty grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and thirteen great great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Erminio, Consuelo was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Susanita Mendoza, grandson, Henry (Sonny) Herrera Jr., five brothers, Benjamin, Dionicio, Porfirio, Eloy, and Ernesto Mendoza, and three sisters, Tonita Salazar, Socorro Hernandez, and Elisa Chavez. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Curtis Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez, Jonathan Melendez, Sabino Grijalva, Fernando Sanchez, and Michael Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Sanchez, Timothy Herrera, Daniel Herrera, Joe Ray Lucero, Martin Vargas, Gabriel Melendez, Sonny Luna, David Sanchez, Nathan Sanchez, Brandon Martinez Benjamin Martinez Jr., Gabriel Herrera, and Joseph Sanchez.
