Corrine Oropesa

It is with anguish, sadness, and heartbreak that the family of Corrine Oropesa regrettably announces her demise on February 20, 2025. She left this world surrounded by her loved ones by her side. Melendez on June 16, 1951, to Refugio (Ralph) Melendez and Maria Ursula Perez Melendez in Roswell, New Mexico. She attended Flora Vista Elementary School (Now Nancy Lopez School), Mesa Middle School and graduated from Goddard High School. She met Juan Oropesa in mid-September 1969 and married him on October 17, 1969. They were married for fifty-five glorious years. They were blessed with three beautiful children whom she referred to as her angels, Carmen Oropesa, Julian Oropesa and Sheila Oropesa Olivas. The children in turn blessed Juan & Corrine with twelve grandchildren which include, Carmen’s Children: Angelique Oropesa Prudencio, Christopher Oropesa Prudencio and Jazzy Oropesa Prudencio. Julian’s & Lisa’s Children: Ashley Oropesa, Angel Oropesa Dillard, Alexandria Oropesa, Breyanna Cobos and Daniel Cobos. Sheila & Michael’s children: Mykaela Olivas, Mykaya Olivas, Jordyne Olivas Cedillo and Devanni Olivas. They in turn have blessed them with fourteen great grandchildren. Those left to honor Corrine’s memories are Juan Oropesa (Spouse), Children: Carmen Oropesa, Julian Oropesa (Lisa), Sheila Olivas (Michael), twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Her siblings: Brothers, George Melendez (Martha), John Melendez, Ralph Jr. Melendez, Danny Melendez (Rachel) and David Melendez (Guadalupe). Sisters, Mary Helen Melendez, and Olivia Cruz (Armando) and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by: Parents, Ralph and Maria Melendez, sister, Ramona Melendez, brother, Lorenzo Melendez. In-Laws, Julian and Herminia Oropesa, brothers-in-law Cruz Oropesa, Toribio (Toby) Oropesa and Albert Cruz Jr. Sister-in-law Mary Helen Melendez. Julian Oropesa, Christopher Prudencio Jr., Jesse Chavez, Rogelio (Roger) Guerra, David Montez and Daniel Cobos will have the honor of serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Olivas, Mykaya Olivas, Mykaela Olivas, Jordyne Olivas Cedillo, Aaron Cedillo, Angelique Prudencio and Jazzy Prudencio. Funeral services are provided through Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. The Viewing will take place on Thursday February 27, 2025 from 8:30 am to 06:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on February 27 after the viewing. The viewing will continue after the rosary until 8:30 pm. Mass will follow on Friday February 28 at St. John’s Catholic Church at 10 am. The burial of her remains will take place at McBride Veteran’s Cemetery after the mass. Corrine was a loving, caring and compassionate person and she not only cared about herself and the immediate family but cared about the community. She worked for the City of Roswell for 25 years before retiring in 2003. She worked as a billing clerk for the City of Roswell Water Billing Department. She then became the office manager for the city of the Roswell Sanitation Department. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. As a catholic she was proud to have been exposed to the Cursillo experience. She became involved with the Roswell Girls Softball Association as a coach and a member of the Board of Directors. She was also member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) because she believed in decency, fair treatment, and the advancement of civil rights for all. Off and on, she was involved with the Democratic Party of Chaves County. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. Words that describe her character include but not limited to witty, amusing, humorous, enjoyable to be around with, and bright. She loved going to the casinos when the opportunity would present itself. The family thanks Dr. Martinez and his staff for their care of Corrine. They also thank Gentiva Hospice and their staff for being there and caring for her. They also would like to recognize nurse, Anna, from Enhabit Home Health for being such a caring nurse. The family sincerely appreciate and extend a heartful “Thank-You” to Belinda Pacheco and Cheyenne Torres, CNAs from Mission Arch Nursing Home for making Corrine’s life as comforting as possible during her stay at Mission Arch. The family also thanks the staff of Anderson Bethany Funeral Home for their professionalism and thoughtfulness. Thank you to all that have reached out to us with their support in more ways than one. We will not say bye because we sincerely believe that we will meet up with her again.
