Delia Ortiz

Delia Ortiz, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was welcomed into Heaven on December 5, 2015. She was born on August 18, 1933, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Alfredo Salinas and Josephina Garza (Flores). Delia was raised by her mother and step-father, Jose Flores, and was the eldest of 3 girls. She attended school in Corpus Christi and graduated from WB Ray High School in 1953. On January 21, 1961, Delia married Melchor J. Ortiz, in Corpus Christi, TX. Together they had four daughters: Terry, Cynthia, Mary Margaret and Sylvia; and one son, Joe. Melchor served in the Air Force, which relocated the family to various areas in Texas and Michigan. At this time, Delia was a homemaker, her greatest joy was her children and staying home to raise them. In the summer of 1972, the family settled at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell. During her time in Roswell, Delia spent many years helping elderly residents, while also working over 30 years as a laundry attendant at Lora’s Launderette, where she met and made many lifelong friends and acquaintances. Delia had a deep faith in God. She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and had donated her time to the Parish’s daycare. After Delia retired, she volunteered at the Good Samaritan’s Community kitchen. She was extremely family oriented and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed preparing big family dinners. Attending various sporting events around the state for her grandchildren, Delia was their number one cheerleader and a permanent fixture at most of them. Preceding Delia in death were her parents, Josephina and Jose Flores; and husband, Melchor. Those left to carry on her heritage are her children: Terry Ramirez (Manuel), of Roswell, NM; Cynthia Dominguez (Alvin), of Las Cruces, NM; Mary Margaret Ortiz and Sylvia Garcia, of Roswell, NM; and Joe Ortiz (Sandra), of Las Cruces, NM; grandchildren: Angela Ramirez (Ashley), of St. Charles, MO; Manuel Ramirez (Ashley), of Albuquerque, NM; Michael Ramirez, of Las Cruces, NM; Anthony Dominguez, of Roswell, NM; Matthew Dominguez, of Portales, NM; Jonathan Dominguez, of Las Cruces, NM; Melissa, Christina and Nicole Garcia, of Roswell, NM; Benjamin and Elijah Ortiz, of Las Cruces, NM; great-grandchildren: Mariah, Arianna and Sophia Ramirez, of Albuquerque, NM; sisters: Olga Mendez (Robert) and Concha Fonseca (Inez), of Corpus Christi, TX. Also surviving Delia are numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Delia will be deeply missed by many, especially by those who had the honor to call her mom and grandma. A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, at which time a rosary will begin. A funeral mass honoring Delia’s life, will be held Friday, December 11, 2015, 10:00 AM, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Delia’s granddaughters: Angela Ramirez, Ashley Rosenkranz, Melissa Garcia, Christina Garcia, Nicole Garcia and Ashley Ramirez. Pallbearers will be Delia’s grandsons; Manuel Ramirez, Michael Ramirez, Anthony Dominguez, Matthew Dominguez, Jonathan Dominguez, Ben Ortiz and Elijah Ortiz.
