Elisa C. Flores went home peacefully to be with Our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 09, 2014. The family will be accepting visitation from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday, December 13, 2014 and 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday December 14, 2014. Services will be conducted on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel, 2609 S. Main, with burial at South Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Sam Chaves and Michael Silva will officiate. Elisa was born April 17, 1925 to Dionicio Chavez and Onafre Chavez-Juarez in Patricia, Texas. She married Max Flores in 1945 in Roswell, NM. Elisa was an accomplished vocalist and pianist who shared her talents with many. She enjoyed her early years teaching piano and voice to the local children as well as refining her own skills. She was invited to tour with Lefty Frizzell and his group but chose to stay out of the limelight and nurture her family. She did record two songs which were played often over the local radio stations. Later in life she turned her talents strictly to gospel music and was featured on the local Christian television station. One of her greatest joys was listening to her grandson sing with her as she practiced for her solos and encouraged him to sing for the Lord as well. During WWII she worked in the naval shipyards in San Pedro, California as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She worked as a secretary at Walker Air Force Base at the time of the “UFO crash”; the Roswell Building and Loan, as one of the first women to step into the work force of Roswell; and later State Farm Insurance. After retirement she opened her own shop at the Monterrey Markets where she sold hand-painted ceramics. She is preceded in death by her parents – Dionicio Chavez and Onafre Chavez- Juarez; her husband – Max Flores; an infant daughter Gloria Jeannette Flores; her brother – Richard Chaves and her great-granddaughter Myranda Gonzales-Flores. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Rudy Flores and his wife Carmen; Robert Flores and his wife Liz; Jim Flores and his wife Theresa; Onalisa Flores; Sonya Rodriguez and her husband Orlando; Donald Flores and his wife Micky. Grandchildren: Arron Flores and his wife Geneva; Max, Bob, Tommy and Mark Flores; Justin Gaussion, James and Janaka Flores; Autumn Nunez; Kristi Horton and her husband Gabriel; Orlando Jr. and Elijah Rodriguez; Dakota, Lane, Hailey, Cheyenne, Micheal, Nicole and Mikayla Flores. Great-Grandchildren: Joseph and Erika Flores; Meadow Nunez; and Damyn Rodriguez and one great-great grandchild – Youllana Montoya. Last, but certainly not least was her beloved dog and constant companion – Sweetie. Pallbearers will be Robert Flores, Donald Flores, Arron Flores, Orlando Rodriguez, Jr., Elijah Rodriguez, Dakota and Lane Flores.
