Obituary for George T. Weitz A funeral service for George T. Weitz, 72, of Roswell will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Richard Grisham officiating. George’s close friend, Hoie Sparkman, will also be speaking and providing the eulogy. George passed away Friday, December 25, 2009 at his home with his wife by his side. George was born April 22, 1937 in Los Angeles, CA to Thomas John Weitz and Dorothy Meyers. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. George married Janet L. Johnson in Las Vegas, NV on September 8, 1974. She survives him of the family home. He also leaves behind one daughter; Julie Gondar and her husband Brian of Camp Pendleton, CA, one son; Scott Weitz of Burbank, CA, two granddaughters; Jennica Barela and Magen Gondar of Camp Pendleton, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Dorothy Weitz and two sisters, June and Carolyn. George was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and was active in Bethel Baptist’s Homebound Ministry program creating and taking recordings of weekly church sermons to homebound members of the church so that they could listen to and enjoy the services. George was also a Greeter at Sunday morning service and loved seeing the faces of his brothers and sisters in Christ every Sunday morning distributing hugs, handshakes and smiles to all. After moving to Roswell in 1989, George was employed at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell as the “Wire Guy”, responsible for installation of all computers and networking campus wide, He was also an Instructor of Computer Science, Data and Computer Networking. He loved his time at Eastern and all of the staff and students that he worked with. He especially enjoyed mentoring work/study students in his office. George was a people-person and loved everyone. Prior to his employment at ENMU-R, George was employed with Pacific Bell/AT&T for 32 years. He was active in the Communications Workers of America union as a Union Steward and was extremely involved in providing for the CWA employees in his district. Upon his diagnosis, George was able to spend his final days at home due to the love, care and concern of all that worked at VistaCare Home Health. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gabrielle Stiller for her constant love, support and hugs. Also, the nursing staff at VistaCare, especially George’s nurse, Anita and CNA’s Angel and Stacy were angels from above. Pallbearers will be PT Foster, Richard Faucett, Ed Spear, Pinky McDaniel, Joe Washburn and Ruben Briseno. Honorary pallbearers will be George’s sons, Scott Weitz and Brian Gonder, The Men of the Kings and Queens Sunday School class at Bethel Baptist Church. My First Christmas in Heaven I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below with tiny lights, like Heavens stars, reflecting on the snow. The sight is so spectacular; please wipe away the tear for I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear but the sounds of music can’t compare with the Christmas choir up here. I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring, For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing. I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart but I am so far away, we really aren’t apart. So be happy for me, dear ones, you know I hold you dear. And be glad I’m spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year. I sent you each a special gift, from my heavenly home above. I sent you each a memory of my undying love. After all, love is a gift more precious than pure gold. It was always most important in the stories Jesus told. Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do.
