Helen (Nena) Flores Mendiola When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an Angel came and called my name and took me by the hand; The Angel said my place was ready, In Heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked at me and said, “Welcome Home.” So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart. Author Unknown It is with a heavy heart and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our Beloved Mother Helen (Nena) Mendiola she received her Angel wings at home and joined our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 20, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Born August 23, 1931 in Roswell, NM to Manuel and Evita Lujan Flores. Nena was a loving mother, devoted homemaker and a devout member of the Catholic Church. Survivors include her children; Joe Mendiola (Doreen Gutierrez) of Las Cruces, NM and Danny Mendiola (Tammy Bishop) of Roswell, NM, Connie Torrez (Antonio), Grace, Theresa all from Roswell, NM and Rebecca (Becky) Bright of Moyock, NC. Special Grandson Reynaldo (Nando) Mendiola. Siblings; Mary Alvarado of Colorado Spring, CO, and Esperanza (Hope) Sombke of Roswell, NM, Pedro L. Franco (Marcie) of Pueblo West, CO. Sisters-in-laws; Carlota Flores of Las Cruces, NM, Virginia Flores of Roswell, NM, Mary Franco of Winchester, CA, Margaret Fresquez of Rio Rancho, NM, Virginia Chavez of Santa Fe, NM, and Mary Mendiola of Bernalillo, NM. Brother-in-law; Raul Alvarez of Santa Fe, NM. Nena was Blessed with 20 Grandchildren, 65 Great-Grandchildren, and 19 Great-Great Grandchildren. Nena was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nava Mendiola her husband of 43 years. Also by; Doroteo (Teo) and Juanita Mendiola, Octavio (Tavio) and Beatrice Mendiola, Guadalupe (Lupe) and Ermina (Minnie) Mendiola, Celestino (Tino) and Elmira (Guera) Mendiola, Isabel (Chavela) Alvarez, Jim Sombke of Roswell, NM, Antonio Alvarado of Colorado Springs, CO, Louis Chavez, Manuel (Lito) Mendiola of Santa Fe, NM, Orlando Fresquez of Rio Rancho, NM, John Mendiola of Long Beach, CA and Marvin Bright of Moyock, NC. Viewing will be held at 12:00-6:00 PM and the Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 S. Main, Roswell, NM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Corner of Main Street and Deming with the Reverend Charlie Martinez. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow immediately at South Park Cemetery, 2500 SE Main St. where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Serving as pallbearers; Joe, Danny, Reynaldo, Lorenzo, Gabriel, and Angel Mendiola, Anthony Aragon and Cedric Chavez. Honorary pallbearers: All her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
