Memorial services for James Santiago Hernandez Jr., 57, of Roswell will be held at 9 am Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Bignell, of Aldersgate Methodist Church, officiating. James passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at his home surrounded by the love of the family. James was born on August 24, 1950 to James Santiago Hernandez Sr. and Eliza Dominguez Hernandez in Alpine, Texas. He and Mary Lee Dobbs were married here in Roswell on October 25, 1968; she survives him at the family home. James loved to ride his motorcycle, play and coach baseball, having backyard bar-b-ques with his family, loved to play and listen to guitar music, loved to play the ponies, going hunting and camping with his grandchildren in the great outdoors, and was a giving person and was there for anyone who needed him. He enjoyed driving his truck and was a driver for Sysco Foods for over twenty-four years. In addition to his wife, Mary Lee, James is survived by his daughters, Angella Kellogg and her husband, Michael, of Germany, Laura Martin Hernandez of Roswell, Rose Hernandez. and Theresa Steinke and her husband, Jason, all of Roswell; grandchildren, Andrea, Missy, Kyle, Dylan, Danielle, Christina, John, Matthew, Anthony, Elizabeth, Megan, Christopher, Timothy, William, Adele, Erin, Madison, Jason II, and David; his mother, Eliza Hernandez; sister, Mary Dale Talbert; brothers, Rick and George Hernandez of Roswell; a sister, Patricia Hernandez of Albuquerque; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. James was preceded in death by his son, Christopher James Hernandez, father, James Santiago “Jimmy” Hernandez Sr., a granddaughter, Laurie Ann Alvarez, and a nephew, Michael Joe Hernandez. My Dad He isn’t wealthy Or considered very great He is a man you either Love or Hate He isn’t always patient Nor is he always kind There is one thing for certain He will always speak his mind There is no mystery about him What you see is what you get If the truth is what you seek He will give it with no regret There can be times he likes To gripe and complain But those who love him Have learned to take it the same He can be quite loving When the situation calls And he is supportive When any of us falls He taught us life can be cruel Don’t give up without a fight Believe in yourself And things will come out right Never a hypocrite He practiced what he preached He taught us with faith There is no goal we can’t reach Now that his life may be reaching the end He wants us to be happy and always smile He believes life is renewed We will see him again…in a little while I wrote this poem I hope it doesn’t make you sad But I just want you to know I love my Dad Angela M.
