Funeral services for James Harold Smith, 63, of Roswell will be held at 11 am Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.L. Smith officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 am Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Visitation will be at Anderson-Bethany funeral home Thursday, July 22, 2010 from 8 am to 9 pm and Friday, July 23, 2010 from 8 am to 7 pm. Saturday until service time. JAMES HAROLD SMITH was born on December 26, 1946 in Paris, Texas, the second child to Thomas Jefferson Smith and Vera Mae (Boyd) Smith. JAMES received his formal education in Roswell, New Mexico. He successfully completed his Masters Degree in Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University. JAMES married Rose Turner. To this union was born three children: Cobey LaHarold Smith and twins, Anthony Renard Smith and Antoinette Renee Smith. JAMES served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on November 5, 1973. During his lifetime, JAMES dedicated his time and efforts to serving his family and community. He spent countless hours counseling adults and youth so that they could find hope and purpose in their lives. JAMES provided love and support to his family and families throughout the community. He received love and respect from them in return. JAMES loved his church, Galilee Baptist Church, and worked tirelessly to make sure it was presentable to GOD. Most of the time he worked alone and well into the night. JESUS was the center of his life and he was not remiss to give HIM all glory and praise. The love GOD gave to him he shared with others. GOD called James to a well-deserved rest on July 16, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Vera Mae Dennis; sons Cobey LaHarold (Mary) Smith and Anthony Renard Smith; three grandchildren, Anthony Smith Jr., Ezander Smith and Chazity Smith; sisters Jo Ann (Sterling) Keys and Mae H. Dennis-Bryant; brothers Rev. Stanley Smith and Reginald Dennis; and uncles Richard J. (Florence) Boyd and Paul Wayne Smith. He also leaves a host of many relatives and dear friends and special friends Veranda Stogden and Peggy (Bailey). JAMES was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Jefferson Smith, daughter Antoinette Renee Smith and brothers Thomas Jefferson Smith, Jr. and Larry Dennis.
