Jim Burns

Services will be held for Jim Burns, 78, of Dexter, NM at 12 pm Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at East Side Church of Christ in Dexter, Robert Bowles officiating with burial to follow in South Park Cemetery. He passed away on Dec. 17, 2012. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 pm – 6pm and Thursday from 8 am – 10am at the funeral home. Jim was born March 18, 1934 to John and Rutonse Burns in Pittsburg, OK. He married Barbara (Bobbie) Henderson on August 28, 1956. He joined the United States Army on November 1956- November 1958. Jim was a musician and played a guitar in Western Swing Music for the past forty years. He was called Papa by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all their friends, Woody by the musicians, and Big Jim by his co-workers. He was a very loving person and was loved by all that knew him, responded to I Love You with I Love You MORE. Papa loved his family and enjoyed having them all together at his home. He worked for Farmers CO-OP Inc. for twenty years, ten years at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell, as the director of the Phyiscal Plant, and thirteen years at New Mexico Military Institute in the Motor Pool and as a welder until his retirement in 1999. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-six years, Barbara (Bobbie)Burns of the home; his daughter, Jeanie Vaughn and her husband, Dennis of Dexter; four granddaughters, Kelli Loudermilk and her husband, Jessie of Dexter, Wendi Blake and her husband, D.J. of Mineral Wells, TX, Vicki Moody and her boyfriend, James Steck, of Quitman, TX, and Tammie Boyer and her husband, Paul of Las Vegas, NV; ten great-grandchildren, Karina Boyer, Colton, Jimmy, and Maggi Loudermilk, Alyla, Kaylia, Haley, James, Graci, and Lillee Blake; his brothers, Virgil and his wife, Armel Burns of Springfield, MO; his sister-in-law, Dortha Burns of Roswell; his brother, Royce Burns of Roswell; his sisters, Willora Bryant of Hagerman; Veta Vaughn of Dexter; Neta Burns of Dexter; and Sue Arnold and her husband, Ronny of Roswell; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Burns, and a special friend and brother-in-law, Vernon Vaughn. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Cody, Guy, Casey, Kyle Arnold, Jerry Bryant, and Dusty Burns. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his friends, nephews and nieces.
