Lawana Collier

(Leada) Lawana Mitchell Collier, Beloved mother, grandmother “Amma”, aunt and friend, entered heaven on June 17, 2018. She was a longtime resident of Roswell. Lawana was born at her parent’s home in Delta, Utah, on July 17, 1943, to Frances Tolbert and Melvin Mitchell. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She met and married the love of her life, Kenneth W. Collier in Delta, Utah. They got married on May 9, 1963. For many years, she was able to be a stay-at-home Mom and housewife. She learned to decorate cakes, was an amazing cook, made quilts, and enjoyed crocheting. She was a good seamstress and made many matching outfits for her daughter and herself. She was a hard-core football fan, who enjoyed cheering on her son, grandsons, great-grandsons, and her favorite football team (the Dallas Cowboys). After living in Grants, NM, for many years, Ken and Lawana moved to Roswell, where Lawana ran a childcare service in her home for 30 plus years. She loved each and every one of the children that she cared for. Many of those children became family to her (Amma) and her husband, Ken (Papa C). Lawana is survived by her step-daughter, Teresa Collier Jackson, of Kaufman,TX; step-son, Tommy Rogers of TX; daughter, Linda Bevers and her husband, Kenneth (Kenny) Bevers of Roswell; her son, (Donnie) Scott Collier and his wife, Andrea Collier of Roswell; her brothers: Gene Mitchell, of Hermlston, Or, and David Mitchell and his wife, Debbie Mitchell of Grants, NM; and her grandchildren: Daryl and Diane Bevers, of Lubbock, TX, Brian and Tracy Bevers, of Hobbs, NM, Patrick Collier and wife of Dallas, TX, Natalie Wallis of TX, Christina Louise Socorro Ortiz of Dallas, TX, Jennifer Wallis of TX, Bradley Wallis of TX, Tyler Collier, of TX, Briana and Michael Chaves of Roswell, Justin and Angela Collier, of Roswell, Amy (Bevers) and Fermin Jimenez of Roswell, A.J. (Arron Jordon) Collier of Roswell, Stephanie Collier of Albq. NM, Little Scott (Andrew) Collier and his fiancé, Jessica Horton of Roswell , Garrett Reed of Dexter, Lauren Reed of Dexter; great-grandkids: Aaron Bevers, Breanna Bevers, Laura Bevers, Damian Chavez, Malia Salinas, Xavien Collier, Nate Vazquez, Michael Chaves Jr, (Little) Fermin Jimenez lll, Jared Marquez Jr, Sariah Collier, Andrew Malachi Collier, Noah Jimenez, and Aubriana Inez Collier; and great-great grandkids: Elaine Bevers and Madyson Avery Elisabeth Cabello; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; Melvin Mitchell, Frances Tolbert; her husband of 49 years, Kenneth W. Collier; step-daughter, Kenni Jean Collier Wallis; grandson, Devin Collier; brothers: Garland, Gerald, Vernon, and Delbert Mitchell; sisters: Berdean Roa and Ella Mae Taylor. Pallbearers will be Kenneth (Kenny) Bevers, Justin Collier, Little Scott Collier, Charles Watley, Garrett Reed and AJ Collier. Honorary pallbearers will be H.P. Hale, Larry Reed, Fermin Jimenez Jr, David Peek, and Luis Cano The services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory on Friday, June 22, 2018, at 2:00 PM and the graveside will follow at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
