Obituary for Lawrence Byrd Funeral services for Lawrence “Shack” Byrd, 93, of Roswell will be held at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2006, with Bro. Early Cannon officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Lawrence passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Mission Arch Care Center. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 8 am to 8 pm Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006. Lawrence was born on October 27, 1912 to Ivery and Genie Byrd in Lockhardt, Texas. He moved to Roswell fifty-one years ago from Grandview, Texas. Lawrence was a custodian at NMMI, receiving the Certificate for Service Award for efficiency and fidelity, and an award for Loyal and Faithful Service, for thirty-three years retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and the NMMI Alumni Association. Lawrence enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends at the Tree, and running his greyhounds, and took pleasure in watching his family and friends play basketball and baseball, Lawrence was a loyal L.A. Dodger fan. He loved his family and left them with loving memories, that will be cherished the rest of their days. Everyone will miss running him to Church’s for his daily chicken. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Lula Byrd, of the family home; children, Willie James Byrd of Dallas, TX, Ola Mae White of Lubbock, TX, Lawrence Byrd Jr. of Hobbs, NM, Leroy Byrd of Albuquerque, NM, Carolyn Byrd-Norris, of Roswell, David Byrd and his wife, Terri, of Albuquerque, NM, Richard Byrd and his wife, Susana, of Roswell, Tommy Byrd of Phoenix, AZ and Vickie Granado-Byrd of Roswell; and four generations of cherished grandchildren. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Cora and Minnie, a brother, Cefuss Byrd, and a son, James Byrd. Pallbearers will be Rick Granado-Byrd, Charlie Reese, James Edwards, Kerry Williams, Dave Aguilar, Burnell Booker, Henry Reese, and Darrell Stacy. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, David, Ricky, and Tommy Byrd, and Tyjuan Evans.
