Leandra ( Lala) Guajaca

Leandra (Lala) Valencia Guajaca, 80, passed away on October 8, 2015. She was born on March 13, 1935, to Francisco and Guadalupe Valencia of Chihuahua, Mexico. On April 27, 1963, she married Hilario Guajaca, whom preceded her in death. Lala was a remarkable and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, as well as a great friend to many. She was always very excited when her grandchildren stopped by to see her. Lala was very devoted to her family and to the church. She was the director of St. John’s Choir for 20 years, and played the mandolin. Lala also taught piano lessons. She always looked forward to talking to Rosa Akin and Carmelita Banuelas. Lala is preceded in death by her husband, Hilario Guajaca; son, Fernando Guajaca; parents, Francisco and Guadalupe Valencia; brothers, Silvestre Valencia and Augustine Valencia; sister, Josephina Valencia; and Alejandra Haney. Survivors of the home include her son, Martin Guajaca, of Roswell, NM; three grandchildren: Charity Zarazua and husband Sammy Zarazua, of Roswell, NM; Rosa Guajaca and fiancé Anthony Molina, of Roswell, NM; Kimberly Martinez and husband Anthony Martinez, of Las Vegas, NM; five great-grandchildren: Carlos Fernando Zarazua, Estrella Leah Zarazua, and Anthony Jr. Molina, all of Roswell, NM; AJ Martinez and Adrian Martinez, both of Las Vegas, NM; and sister, Constancia Valencia, of Chihuahua, Mexico. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, with a mass following at 10:00 AM. The burial will be immediately after, at South Park Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews and nieces. Pallbearers will be Saul Haney, Sammy Zarazua, Phelipe Lechuga, Bill Akin, Michael Guebara, and Angelo Guebara. The family will receive family and friends at 636 E. 6th St., Roswell, NM.
