Marcella M. Marquis

Marcella M Marquis, 69, of Roswell, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on October 10, 2021, surrounded by family and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Marcella was born on February 11, 1952, to Erineo and Angelina Arguello in Chacon, NM. The family then moved to Portales, NM, where she grew up. Marcella attended Portales Junior High School, where she dropped out and married Victor C. Garcia and gave birth to two daughters Elizabeth A Alaniz at the age of 15 and Victoria I. Guajaca, at the age of 18. Marcella worked as a prep-cook at University College in the kitchen. She worked as a laborer in the cotton field, potato fields, chile fields, and onion fields. Marcella then learned to drive a tractor module builder in the cotton fields in Texas. She also worked in a deli at a grocery store and a peanut mill. After several years Marcella moved to Roswell, where she met Edward “Mike” Marquis. Marcella and Edward got married on June 7, 2008. She was a member of El Calvario Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Eagles Club in Roswell. Marcella loved to clean the church with Sister Gina De Los Santos, cook, knit, crochet, play bingo, reading books, fix puzzles, fishing, play games on the computer, and go to the casino, but she mostly loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and family. Marcella will be dearly missed by all whose hearts she touched. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Marcella are her spouse Edward M. Marquis of the family home, two daughters, Elizabeth A. Alaniz and her husband Benito of Kansas City, KS, and Victoria Guajaca of Roswell. Her siblings, Nora Gallegos and her husband Jimmy of Guadalupita, NM, Leo Arguello of Portales, NM, Lorraine Blea-Garcia, and her husband Ernest of Roswell, NM. Grandchildren, Charity G. Zarazua and her husband Sammy of Roswell, Rosa E. Guajaca of Ajo, Arizona, Angelina F. Gomez, and her companion Marcos Juarez of Roswell; great-grandchildren: Carlos F. Zarazua of Roswell, Estrella L. Zarazua of Roswell, Anthony A. Molina of Ajo, AZ, Namine E. Juarez of Roswell, and Erineo A. Juarez of Roswell. She is also survived by her special friend of over 45 years, Percilla Dominquez. Marcella is preceded in death by her parents: Erineo and Angelina Arguello; sister, Maria Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Eddie Gonzales; and her son-in-law, Tomas Guajaca. Those blessed to be chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Charity Zarazua, Rosa Guajaca, and Angelina Gomez; and her great-grandchildren: Carlos and Estrella Zarazua, Anthony A. Molina, Namine E, and Erineo Juarez. The Marquis family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff and doctors at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Dr. Wolf in Roswell, Kindred Hospice Nurses, and Care Aides. Her private caregiver Martha and El Calvario Baptist Church, for the excellent care and compassion that was given to our loved one. In Lieu of flowers, the Marquis family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Marcella M Marquis. Marcella’s tribute was written in her honor by her family.
