Margaret May Hutchison

Margaret May Hutchison, 80, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please leave a kind thought or memory for Margaret’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. Services to honor Margaret will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at 12:30 PM, with John Alvarado of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Margaret May Hutchison was born to Blake and Lulu Shugarts in Chester, Pennsylvania, on August 27, 1944. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served her country for three years before being discharged as an E4. During her time in the army, she was stationed in Paris, France, where she met her husband, Fredrick Hutchison. They were married and spent 58 years together before his passing last year. Together, Margaret and Fredrick shared four children and a lifetime of love. Margaret was a legal secretary for over 40 years in the civil service industry. Some of her passions in life included spending time with her family, playing guitar, singing in her church choir, volunteering at VBS at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, her home church, traveling, and going on vacation. Margaret was able to see so many places through their time in the military and their travels, notably seeing places like Germany, Turkey, Greece, Japan, Canada, and almost all 50 states. Margaret was a soft-spoken and kind soul whose gentle presence left an indelible impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Intelligent and thoughtful, a good listener who always made others feel valued and heard. Her charismatic sense of humor, often expressed through funny jokes or a good story, brought laughter to those around her. Margaret was a beautiful dancer with a talent for making her husband look good on the dance floor as well. With a brilliant mind, she was also a very competitive Scrabble player. Those left behind to cherish their memories of Margaret are her children, Michele Ortega, James Hutchison, and Steve Verville; grandchildren, Sherry Burke, Matthias Burke, Christian Burke, Aaron Burke, Charity Wilson, Frank Moss, Christina Santos, Ashley Santos, Yahir Ortega, Elyssa Hutchison, Joseph Verville, Sarah Verville, and Bethany Flemming; numerous beloved great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Christine Shugarts Olsen, Barbara Shugarts Thompson, Anne McCan, Anita Kohn, Frank Reale, Donna Reale, and Guy Michael Raele; and her special four legged companions, Peaches and Misty. Those waiting to welcome her with open arms include her forever dance partner, Fredrick Hutchison; daughter, Beverly Gegg; parents, Blake Bryan Shugarts and Lulu Wilsoncroft Shugarts; and siblings, Jack (Hilda) Shugarts, Marie (Jack) Lenharot, and Linda (Guy) Reale. Margaret’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Heartfelt Manor for all the love that they showed her. Although she was only there for three short months, the love and care that they provided was unmatched and very appreciated.
