Obituary for Maria F. Lucero Maria F. Lucero, 93, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving Daughters Lupe Mendoza and Cecila Gomez and son-in-law Tommy. Memorial Services will be held on March 8, 2025, at 10:00 am at Anderson Bethany funeral home and will be Led by Paster Chris Lethgo. Maria was born on February 26, 1931, in Acala Texas in Hudspeth County, to Valente and Pime Franco. The Franco family moved to New Mexico in the 1940’s where Maria worked at a farm with her family and did household duties for the owners. She mended and made her sister’s clothing. On June 19, 1948, Maria married the love of her life, Abselin Lucero. Together they raised four children in a loving home and were happily married for 68 years. Maria worked at Levis Strauss & Co. Maria retired from Levis Strauss & Co. after 26 years of service. Maria was happy to be around with the love of her life fishing, hunting, camping and while supporting Abselin with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse, Maria also became a member. Together they would work at the Corn ranch during sheep shearing time where she would work as the ranch cook, she loved to cook especially for all her children and grandchildren. Durning Christmas time she would make her best Tamales. In the Fall she canned fruits and jalapenos and made everyone’s favorite tomato jelly. Maria was also there for her grandchildren, she would shower them with love and kisses and always made sure they were fed before they left her home. Maria leaves behind her two daughters: Lupe Mendoza of Roswell, Cecilia and husband, Tommy Gomez of Dexter; grandchildren: Nancy and husband, Chris Colby of Dexter, Monica and husband, Akram Weusi of San Antonio, Tx, Rebecca and husband, Cliff Ginanni of Lubbock, TX, Frank Jimenez III of Hobbs, NM, Desiree Mendoza and partner Johnny Alonzo of Roswell, Marcella Mendoza of Roswell, Elisha Contreras of Roswell, Toni Gomez and partner Juan De Le Cerda of Roswell, Thomas and Julietta Gomez of Artesia, Anthony and Angela Gomez of Dexter, NM, and also a very special niece and nephew Angie and Robert Quintero of Midland Tx. Also remaining to carry on their legacy are 12 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren: her brothers Jose, Samuel, Manuel Franco & sister Irene Andrade. Maria is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Abselin Lucero, son, Abselin Lucero Jr, daughter, Elvira Jimenez, and her son-in-law Frank Jimenez and sister Thomasa Sanez, brother’s Flavio and Santos Franco. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses, Chaplin’s and all staff from Gentivia Hospice for all their caring and compassion during this time. We have great appreciation for the loving care for our mother/grandmother all these years. When tomorrow Starts without me Please try to understand That an angel came and called my name And took me by the hand The angel said my place was ready In heaven far above And that I would have to leave behind All those I Dearly Love But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates I felt so much at home When GOD looked down and Smiled at me, and told me “Welcome Home.” So, tomorrow starts without me.
