Maria Consuelo Mendoza

This tribute was written in love by her six children who she dedicated her life to. Maria Consuelo Mendoza was born on December 19, 1931 in Por Venir, Mexico to Marcos and Hipolita Aldaco. Being an elder sister, as a young woman, she worked to help support her family of origin. She was widowed in her twenties prior to having any children. Being devoutly Catholic she waited several years before marrying our father, Ricardo Mendoza in 1966. She then started her family. She had six children: Rosamaria, Raymundo, Delia, Luz Elena, Guadalupe, and Felipe de Jesus. Being our mother was her greatest joy and she always made sure we knew it by her actions. Our fondest memories of her include her waking up every morning at dawn to make enough tortillas for every child and her husband for every meal then ensuring her home was kept, cleaning every room and washing every dish while still finding the time to keep her children well-groomed as she sent them off to school. It mattered to her that we were educated and also raised in the Catholic faith. She could not spoil us with material things so she spoiled us by being the ever present mother who kept her home structured and focused on her children’s needs. The structure she put in place helped us find our own way in life even when there were moments we disappointed her. She never wavered in her expectations for us and continued to love us despite our many mistakes. She valued family closeness and always wanted her children and grandchildren near. No matter when we found our way home we would find her sitting in her favorite spot praying her rosary followed by her saying “Estoy rezando por ti” and then “Tienes hambre?”, “Comiste?”, “Ven a comer”. As we got older she found time to return to work and rededicated herself to her faith by joining a Catholic women’s group allowing her to serve God and her community. Even after raising six of us she still had it in her to show the same love, same devotion, and stern guidance for her grandchildren. It was in our adulthood that we finally came to see her sharp wit and humor, to see her as a full person even as she slipped away from us. In our house we always knew we were loved. We recall our house always being filled with laughter. Maria Consuelo Mendoza is survived by her loving and devoted husband, who was there for her till the very end, her six children, twelve grandchildren, and sixteen grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home in Roswell, NM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. with the reading of the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled at Immaculate Conception Church in Dexter, NM on Thursday May 31, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.
