Maria Reina Ortiz

Maria R. Ortiz, 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, in her family home surrounded by her loved ones. There will be a Viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 S. Main St. on Monday, April 2, 2018, 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 111 E. Deming, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, 10:00 AM. On October 7, 1940, Maria was born to Hilario Guerrero and Maria C. Espinosa in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. She married the love of her life, Robert B. Ortiz in September of 1960. They started out living in Alamogordo, NM, and lived in various other New Mexico locations until the early 1970’s, when they settled in Roswell, NM. At that time, Maria was a homemaker and held various part-time jobs, until she went to work for TMC/Nova Bus where she remained employed until the plant shut down. Maria then dedicated herself to taking care of her mother and the rest of her family. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance, spending time with her family, grandchildren and bringing her favorite dishes to family gatherings. Maria was devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe. She was respected and loved by all her family and will be greatly missed. Surviving to cherish Maria’s memory are her daughter, Daria and husband, Ray Gabaldon; one granddaughter, Amanda and husband, Nick Padilla; two grandsons: Ramon R, Jose Luis Gabaldon; one great-granddaughter, Nicolette Padilla; four brothers: Hilario, Jose Luis Guerrero, Daniel and Samuel De La Cruz all from Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico; one sister, Marisela and husband, Jose Herrera of Muleshoe, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law from her husband’s side. Preceding Maria in death was her husband of forty-eight years, Robert B. Ortiz; and parents: Hilario Guerrero and Maria C. Espinosa. Those chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are her grandchildren: Amanda Padilla, Ramon R, Jose Luis Gabaldon; and great-granddaughter, Nicolette Padilla.
