Mary Dalton Sanders

Mary Etta Dalton Sanders Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, at 500 N. Pennsylvania Ave., for Mary Etta Sanders, 92, of Roswell, who passed on Aug. 17, 2009, in Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, Va., where she had lived at Bryce Golf and Ski Resort with her daughter for six years. Mary was a Roswell resident for 78 years. The Rev. Matt Brooks of the First Baptist Church will officiate, with burial to follow in South Park Cemetery. Music will be provided by Cynthia Youngman and Audrey Hill. The Order of Eastern Star will provide a ceremony at the church. Mary was born April 7, 1917, in Hurricane, W. Va., to Walter Scott and Sallie Maude Underwood Dalton. She was married to Woodrow Eli Sanders on Sept. 29, 1934, in Roswell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and sisters, Grady Dalton, Pete Dalton, Ruby Beaty and Allene Spurrier; and one grandchild, Ian Brandt. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roswell, the Order of Eastern Star, the Social Order of the Beauceant and the Daughters of the Nile. She was an avid gardener, who grew the most beautiful flowers. Mary is survived by several beloved family members, including her three children, Vivian Brandt of Las Vegas, Nev., Norma Poteat-Day, of Basye, Va., and Gerald Sanders and his wife, Matilda, of North Richland Hills, Texas; a sister, Jean Camp, of Roswell; and two brothers, Jack Dalton of McMinnville, Ore., and Bill Dalton, of Las Cruces; 10 grandchildren, Kim Brandt, of Boulder, Colo., Greg Brandt, of Ft. Carson, Colo., Jan Brandt, of Antioch, Calif., Dane Brandt, of Ft. Carson, Kathy Friedrichsen, of Arlington, Va., Cynde Mathis, of Orange Park, Fla., Dana Poteat, of Warrenton, Va., Lori McCaffrey, of Midland, Texas, Stacey Moseley, of Alvarado, Texas, and Gabriel Rangel, of North Richland Hills. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a warm, loving person to all who knew her. All the children and young people, including many who attended NMMI, knew that if they felt hungry or needed some attention, she was there to provide a great meal, delicious baked desserts and loving attention. We are all better people because of her love and attention and of having the good fortune to know and love her. Pallbearers will be six of her grandchildren, Jan Brandt, Dana Poteat, Kathy Friedrichsen, Kim Brandt, Dane Brandt and Greg Brandt. Those who wish to attend a viewing, may do so at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 S. Main St. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m.
