Mateo Vega Campos May 18, 2010 – February 2, 2026 Mateo Vega Campos, 15, of Roswell, New Mexico, was born on May 18, 2010, and passed away on February 2, 2026. Though his life was far too short, the love and light he brought into the world will never be forgotten. Mateo was truly a ray of sunshine with a heart of gold. He had a warm smile and a gentle spirit, and he had a way of making everyone feel better just by being around him. He was very funny, smart, cute, and cuddly, with a caring and kind heart. Mateo was outgoing, empathetic, compassionate, calm, and humble. He loved to dance, loved deeply, and lived with an adventurous and ambitious spirit. Mateo loved sports and was a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also loved to play video games, spend time with his family, and go to the movies with his cousins Jackie, Clarissa, Angel, Sebastian, and Brian. He was proud to be part of the Roswell High School football, track, and powerlifting teams, where he showed dedication, strength, and heart. One of his greatest accomplishments was being named “Panther of the Year” at Mesa Middle School. Mateo had a deep love for cars and dreamed of becoming a mechanic one day. He also enjoyed collecting toys and little trinkets, each one special to him. He is survived by his parents, Lourdes Vega, Oscar Campos, and Jesus Campos. He is also survived by his grandparents on his mother’s side, Leonila Vega and Guillermo Vega, and his grandmother on his father’s side, Carmen Campos. Mateo is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Hector and Jazzmin Olivas, Miguel Angel and Elizabeth Olivas, Cecilia Campos, Natalia Campos, and Jesus and Meranda Campos. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Eli De La Torre, Aviana Olivas, Aliah De La Torre, Moncerrat Olivas, Jacob Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, Maite Olivas, Galilea Olivas, Miguel Angel Olivas Jr., and Anahi Campos. He is survived by many aunts and uncles. On his mother’s side: Ruben and Angela Vega, Luz and Manuel Aguirre, Lupe Olivas, Martha and Arturo Hernandez, Guillermo and Terry Vega, Yolanda and Rene Aguirre, Antonio and Lupe Vega, Sebastian and Alma Vega, Jorge and Claudia Vega, and Gustavo and Erika Vega. On his father’s side: Lety and Sergio Valdez, Cesar and Oralia Campos, Ana and Arturo Alvarado, Carmelita and Alfredo Varela, Mario and Sandra Campos, and Celia Campos. Mateo was also survived by many cousins who loved him very much—and whom he loved deeply in return. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Stella Campos. He was preceded in death by his grandfather on his father’s side, Ernesto Campos; his cousin, Manuel Aguirre; his uncle, Juan Olivas; his sister-in-law, Marlene Olivas; and his niece, Magdaly Olivas. Honorary Pallbearers: Hector Olivas, Miguel Angel Olivas, Jesus Campos, Brian Aguirre, Angel Vega, and Sebastian Vega. Services: Funeral services will be held at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home in Roswell, New Mexico. • Viewing: February 10th, 2026, starting from 5:00 p.m. to the following day February 11th, 2026, till 10:00 p.m. Rosary is February 11th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. • Burial Service: Thursday Mass, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Burial is right after mass. Mateo will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, his big heart, and the bright future he carried within him. Though his time here was far too brief, his impact will last forever.
