Mere Contreras

Merehildo “Mere” Ray Contreras, 31, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at his home where he grew up. He was born on September 17, 1983, in Roswell, to Bobby Contreras and Ginnie Salas, who survive him. As a lifelong resident of Roswell, Mere was a loving, caring, kind, considerate and compassionate person who was a hard worker. He worked for Swann’s Transmissions and was his father-in-law’s right hand man for 13 years. Mere also worked for Ray Castillo’s Roofing. Mere had a heart of gold, and was the type of person that would give you his last dollar as well as the shirt off his back. He helped out with home care and hospice for his Grandma Ruby, who preceded him in death. Mere enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, horseshoes and playing darts. He loved to cook on the disco, listening to all sorts of music, dancing and always smiling, he was the life of the party. Mere was incredibly artistic in many areas and enjoyed crafts. He was a collector of Hot Wheels and an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins. Preceding Mere in death were his brothers, Bobby Ray Contreras and Robert Bonilla; grandparents, Mere and Flora Contreras, and David and Mary (Baby) Salas; uncles and aunts: Ray Ruby and Joann Contreras, Tony, Jerry Bobby and Ginny Barela; nephew, Eric Robert Contreras and sister-in-law, Melissa; special brothers: Danny Najar Jr, Lil Ricky Salazar, Jerry Joe Vallejos, Ray Garcia, Lucas Serna, Lil Frankie, Robert Vigil, Louis “Smoke” Ochoa, Victor Contreras, “Lil” Tuder Dutchover and Jr Marquez; Chris Padilla, Tabitha and Geneva Serna, Vanessa Espinoza and Maria Jimenez Fuentes, who were very special friends. Surviving him are his wife, Audrey; sons, Jacob and Xavian; brother, Eric and wife Chastynee and children, Mariah, Robert Daniel, Diamond, Erica Sole, Innocence Joann and unborn child; sisters, Reina and Magdaleno and children, Isaac and Frankie Ray; Marina and John Herrera; “Lil” brother, David Salas-Silva; nieces, Star Ray and Bobbie Monique; in-laws, Bill Swann and Ranae; brother-in-law, Bill Jr and children, Eli and Eva; sister-in-law, Amanda and children, Austin and Landyn; Aunt Debbie Contreras; Uncle Greg Salas; God parents, Lupe and Dolores Contreras. Also surviving Mere are special grandparents, Bill and Evelyn; cousins and friends. He’s gone on to a better place, but will never be forgotten. Rest in peace and watch over us that are left. You will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved you. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 30, 2015, 7:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A funeral is scheduled on Monday, August 31, 2015, 10:00 AM, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Deacon Ernesto Martinez will officiate. Following the burial, a comida will be held at St. John’s Hall from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Lucia and Lupito Contreras, Lee Miranda, David “Spok” Servantes, Jeremy Garcia, Mathew Little, Fred Luna, Eric Contreras, Bill and Jacob Swann. Honorary pallbearers will be all who loved him, too many to name, but includes Roderick Sedillo and Cruz Silva. You left me beautiful memories, your love is still my guide and though we cannot see you, you’re always at my side. I’m Free Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I am following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day if my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss Ah yes, these things I, too, will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one touched. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now; He set me free.
