Michael "Big Mike" J. Villarreal

On Saturday, December 26, 2020, our family lost a beloved member, and heaven gained an angel. Michael J. “Big Mike” Villarreal was born on April 15, 1973, to Oralia Villarreal and David Montoya and was raised by maternal grandparents, Manuel and Siria Villarreal Sr. All four preceded him in death. Mike was always taking things apart and putting them back together. He had an interest in music and vehicles at a very young age. At age 11, Mike did his first window tinting and shortly after his first stereo installation. His interests led him into the ownership of a couple of local audio shops, Street Level Customs and Drop Em Customs. Audio installation expanded into hydraulic installation and body frame reinforcement, and a business association with Hi-Lo Hydraulics became a friendship. Mike and friends built a car, which would be later known as “El Matador,” which won its first Low Rider Hopping Competition in a Carlsbad car show in 1998. That car would go on to hold a world record in the low rider hopping competition for about a year. It was just one of his proudest moments. Big Mike loved to be surrounded by people but treasured the time he spent with his family. He was his happiest when he was with his children, sister, nieces, and their families. Michael never missed the chance to help anyone learn something he knew or to make someone smile. His heart was big, and he forgave easily. We hope heaven knows what it has gained. Michael is survived by his children: Justice Villarreal and husband Dario and their two sons: Adrian and Christian, Christopher Villarreal of El Paso TX, Alizia Villarreal, Joseph Villarreal, Raquel Gonzales and family, and Victor Harris of TX; sister, Liza Trujillo; nieces: Angela Gallegos and children: Carlos, Zaclyn and Xavien, Michaela Gallegos and Adolph Romero and their children Siria and Damian and Esmeralda Gallegos and daughter Aldiza, and brother George Herrera of Albuquerque NM; godmother, Elia Garza; and aunts: Yolanda, Olaya, and Mollie. Michael’s honorary “family” that also survive him are Ricky Chaves, Joaquin “Junior” Serrano, Rosa and Serrano family, Felix Reese, Charlie Bell, Jeremy Kersowsky, Luis Coronado, Mike Ramon, Andrew “Patty” Patton, Jordan Duran, Kirby Moore; his “Hi-Lo” family: Felipe Rodriguez, Robert Hildago, Sarah Montoya, Santana Anaya, Carrie Chavarria; and too many friends to include that were important in his life. On Friday, January 8, 2021, at 8:00 PM, we will take Big Mike on his final cruise. Anyone interested should meet at Albertson’s on Main Street. On Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 9:00 AM, we will have a Graveside Services for Mike at South Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone who reached out during this difficult time and to those who provided donations for Michael’s services. Our love and respect to those who didn’t know Mike or casually knew him and still contributed.
