Nona Ridge

Funeral Services for Nona J. Ridge, 83, of Roswell, will be held Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Reeves of Church On The Move officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Nona Jean Ridge passed away on October 16 at Casa Maria after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was released from pain and suffering and is now whole and with her loved ones who were waiting with open arms to receive her. Nona was the loving wife of R.L., the wonderful mother of Nancy, Jerry, Robert, and Patrick, and the amazing Granny of Laura, Christy, Jayme, Kazira, Jerrad, Aysia, Elyce, Camra, and Madison. She is also survived by five Great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her loving daughters-in-law, Betty Jo Ridge, wife of Robert , and Pam Ridge, wife of Patrick. Nona was born on April 2, 1926 to John (Dooley)and Gladys Anderson in Snyder Oklahoma. She was the only girl in a family with seven children. She told many stories of living through the Great Depression and life on a rural cotton farm. She, as the only girl, worked hard from the age of 7 or 8 to help her mother with all those boys. She and her older brother , Fred, used to go do wash for other family members and she cooked and cleaned to help her mother through pregnancies and births. Nona is predeceased by her husband R.L. Ridge, her parents, and her brothers Fred, Cotton, C.W., and J.L. Her brothers Billy Ray and wife Shirley and Vernon and wife Sharon, all of Snyder, Oklahoma, survive her. Also surviving her are all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nona was mother to Nancy Moorhead, Jerry, Robert, and Patrick Ridge. She also raised her beloved granddaughter Jayme Tarin. Grandchildren are Laura Ridge, Christy Moorhead, Kazira Ridge, Jerrad Ridge, Aysia Pirtle,Elyce Ridge, Camra Ridge, Madison Ridge and Jessica Taylor. Great-grandchildren are Kilee Ridge, Makenzie Tarin, Alex Tarin, Cody Ridge, Alayna Tarin,. Sent to us from heaven is also her faithful caretaker, Judy Avelar. Judy went to Casa Maria every day to make sure Nona was cared for and went above and beyond the call of duty in her caring and love. We so appreciate Judy and her tender loving care of our Mom. We would also like to thank Eva Marquadt, who was previously one of Mom’s caretakers and the staff at Casa Maria for their care and concern. Nona loved her home and was always redecorating. She was an excellent cook who was always trying new recipes. She would have been addicted to The Cooking Channel. She was a dedicated gardener and was always studying about plants and bugs. She was known far and wide for the excellent tomatoes she grew. We miss her dearly and think lovingly about the many Thanksgiving and Christmas meals we shared as a family. She will always be in our hearts and we will remember her with love, forever.
