Paul McAfee

Rev. I. Paul McAfee, Jr.,78, of Roswell quietly entered into his Savior’s rest on February 3, 2009 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Paul was born to Ivan and Gladyce (Walton) McAfee on May 8, 1930 in Washington, PA, who preceded him in death. Two sisters, Lorraine and Linda, also preceded him in death. Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley, of the family home. Also surviving are daughters Trudy (Bill) Harris of Boulder City, NV; Karen (Johnny) Johnson of Tyler, TX; Julie (Don) Hines of Chandler, AZ and son I. Paul (Aimee) McAfee III of La Mirada, CA. He had 11 grandchildren—Jen (Bob) Brinkman of Naples, FL; Sam (Stephanie) Johnson of Tyler, TX; Nathan (Amanda) Johnson of Tallahassee, FL; Seth (Julie) Johnson of Ft. Worth, TX; Harmony McAfee (Jim Medina) of La Habra, CA; Megan (Jared) Gailey of Sheridan, OR; Tessie McAfee and fiancé Lucas Alexander of La Mirada, CA; Johanna (Aaron) Mackey of Chandler, AZ; Derek Hines of Portland, OR; Elyssa and Felicity Hines of Chandler, AZ. Five great-grandchildren, Coral, Brayden and Andrew Gailey, Molly Johnson, and Will Johnson also survive him. Paul received degrees from University of LaVerne, CA and Denver Seminary. He pastored churches in Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico and California. Later he was called to Hospital Chaplaincy Ministry of America, Inc. and received his clinical training at Los Angeles General Hospital. He held Director of Counseling positions in Albuquerque, NM, El Paso, TX, and Las Cruces, NM and was active as a counselor until called home. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Kings and Queens Sunday School class and choir. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory. As Paul wished, cremation has taken place. Reverends Ron Tyson and Norm Lackey of La Luz Baptist Church and Rev. Richard Grisham of Bethel Baptist Church will conduct the service.
