Perry Trent

Our hearts are saddened as we have to say goodbye to a very special woman, Perry Trent (Marling). She was born on August 10, 1933, and deceased on October 22, 2020. A Graveside Services at South Park Cemetery will be held on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 11:00 AM. Pastor Rick Rapp of Gateway Church will officiate. Perry was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the youngest child of Vera and Charley Montgomery. The family moved to New Mexico when she was a young child. She was the strength behind all of us. Perry taught us many things from cooking to cleaning, arts and crafts, quilting and ceramics, gardening, along with work ethics, molding us in becoming strong, independent individuals that could stand alone if need be. Perry worked many years of her life in laundry service, and then became a fast-food cook at Tastee Freeze North, and later becoming a cook at St. Mary's Hospital for several years. She even pushed food carts from St. Mary's to Casa Maria when they opened. Perry finally got her kitchen at Casa Maria and went to school to become a dietician. She also worked at the New Mexico Rehabilitation for several years. Perry was preceded in death by her parents, Vera and Charley Montgomery; four brothers; two sisters; as well as two sons: Billie Jaye Marling (1971) and Joe Marling (2018). Survivors include Wesley Marling (Judy), Jim Marling (Shannon), of Roswell, NM; daughter-in-law, Donita Marling of McKinney, TX; grandchildren: Donny Marling of Roswell, NM, Billy Marling (Amanda) of Lake Arthur, NM, Amanda Walls (Michael) of McKinney, TX, Tramphis Marling (Mandy) of McKinney, TX, Amy Bishop (Chase) of Roswell, NM, Alyssa Marrufo of Colorado; sixteen great-grandchildren: Medillia, Ava, Ryan, Madison, Corbin, Dathan, Shana, Amiah, Aylee, Deagan, Hunter, Cooper, Avelyn, Tomas, Leah, and Layla; as well as several cousins. When Perry finally retired she was ready to spend her time with her children and grandchildren, great-grandchildren; along with her niece, Anna Renfro of Roswell, and telephone visits with Ellen Lee, (JD) of Georgia; cousins: Becky and Tom of Farmington, NM. Perry (Mom & Nanny) loved her family with all her heart. You never left Perry’s house hungry. Some of her favorite times were outback cooking on her old wood-burning cookstove with all her family. Perry had loved and cared for many. Those who were blessed to know her had a friend forever. She loved her arts and crafts. There are things Perry made from quilts to ceramics that will be treasured forever. Her shoes will be hard to fill and there is an empty spot left on earth. Perry’s tracks are everywhere. She's truly missed and will be remembered forever. (Jim Marling) My Nanny Perry Trent passed away. She was the glue, foundation, rock, and inspiration of the Marling family. Perry taught me so much. "Red" was a firecracker, butt whopper, and one heck of a hard-loving woman. She never gave up on any of us. Perry only loved, supported, and taught us. She is now home with those in our family that have passed on and I know without a doubt they are rejoicing that Perry’s there, finally home. She finally reunited with two of her sons, brothers, and others she missed dearly. I can't imagine a mother's happiness to hold her boys again after so long. I know Perry will have some banana nut bread there waiting for me when my time comes to go home. I feel some comfort knowing she’s got a better view to watch over my babies and she will protect them and guard them in their adventures. I love you, Nanny.
