Phylis Ann King

Phylis Ann King, 64 Phylis Ann Miles-King, was born to Edgar and Raye Miles on June 12, 1955. Phylis died peacefully, surrounded by her loving children on February 10, 2020. Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, at 11 am at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, NM. Phylis, known to many as Nina. Left behind a crazy and dysfunctional family in which she was very proud of. Her brother Phil and Wife Donna, as well as her four children ABBY and husband Steve, JAMES and wife Christina, JOSHUA and wife Rose Ann, LORI and husband John. Mom loved us kids, but she always said that nothing was better than being NINA to her 9 grandchildren Paul, James, Camillo, Phillip, Aubrey, Wade, John, Joshua, McKenzie, and 1 great-grandson Braxton and one more great-grandson on the way. Our Mom had such a good sense of humor and often joked that when we got together, she could hear dueling banjos in the background because we were all a bunch of hillbillies’. She also gave us all the most unique and silly nicknames, and she talked about us to her friends and co-workers. When we met them, they would say they felt as if they knew us already because of the stories they had heard about us. We knew that meant she loved us and was very proud of us. Our Mom was tiny but mighty and definitely not someone you’d want to cross, but she had a huge heart with so much love to give. The family was very important to her, but so was her job. Phylis worked at Quality Inn and Suites as a manager for many years. She was a devoted employee who went above and beyond for her staff and hotel owner. The hotel was truly her home away from home, and she loved everyone there, and they loved her. Our Mom was truly a fighter in every sense of the word. Cancer reared its evil head in her life, and she was diagnosed with stage 3b lung cancer 7 years ago. Given only a 5% chance of survival and only a year to live, she set out to battle this demon. Chemotherapy, radiation, and losing all her hair didn’t slow her down. Against all the odds and far beyond the expectations of the doctors, she was cancer-free! We were in awe of her strength and determination through this battle; in the end, it was her COPD and respiratory failure that took her from us. The family will be hosting a dinner after the service and address will be given at the service. Please join us and see if you can hear the dueling banjos playing. Service is under the care of Anderson Bethany Funeral home. Phylis’ tribute was written in her memory by her family.
