Ramon Lara

Ramon Lara, 97, passed away on August 25, 2015. He was born on August 9, 1918, to Atilano J. Lara and Julia F. Rodriguez, in Fort Davis, TX. After serving in the army, he became a truck driver for fifty-one years before retiring. Ramon loved to work hard and he always helped everyone. He mostly loved being around his family and took good care of them. He liked to watch his kids play sports. Ramon enjoyed playing baseball being a short stop for the Roswell Wildcats. Dancing and driving around visiting and drinking a few cold ones with his friends was a favorite pastime of his. Ramon always had a handkerchief and cabbie hat on, and a dime in his ear telling everyone he was 21. Red cheese enchiladas were his favorite food. Preceding Ramon in death were his parents; wife, Telles (Torrez) Lara; sister, Josephine; brother, Tinnies; sons, Raymond Lara Jr and Manuel Lara Sr; grandsons, Manuel Lara Jr and Devin; granddaughter, Chloe Rae Lara; great-grandson, Ysdiro; and daughter-in-law, Anna Lara. Those left to carry on his legacy are daughters: Angie Alvarez and Mary Lou Cobos, of Willmington, Ca; Cyndi Rae Lara, of Chicago, IL; and Julie Lara, of Roswell, NM; sons, Cedric (Tooter) Lara and Gabriel Lara, of Roswell, NM; grandchildren: Christopher Lara, Jacob Huerta, Nathan Lara, Emileigh Lara; Renee Rodriguez, Deanna Lara, Ylizianna Lara, Adrianna Lara, Meagan Weimer, Raymond Lara, Holly, Andrew Garcia, Dwayne Garcia, Steven Lara, Andrew Lara, Brevin Lara, Desi Lara, Adam Lara, Mercedes Guevara, Devin Trujillo, Gabriel Lara Jr and Azilynn Lara. Also surviving Ramon are many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A viewing is scheduled on Friday, August 28, 2015, 1:00 to 7:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM, also at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A mass will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, 10:00 AM, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Fr. Charlie Martinez will officiate. Pallbearers will be Christopher Lara, Domingo Ponce, Raymond Lara, Alex Torrez, Israel Villa and Vernon Molinar.
