RAYMOND NOVATO ORTEGA, 90, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please take a moment and share a kind thought or memory with the Ortega family at www.andersonbethany.com. SERVICES: There will be a Visitation for Raymond at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, 2609 S. Main, Roswell, New Mexico, on Sunday, August 4, 2019, from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 PM. A Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 506 S. Lincoln, Roswell, New Mexico, on Monday, August 5, 2019, 10:00 AM. After service, Raymond will be placed at St. Peter’s Columbarium, 111 E. Deming, Roswell, NM. Raymond was born on November 1, 1928, to Rudolpho and Manuelita Torrez Ortega in Sheridan, New Mexico, (El Chete’) born and reared at La Manga, New Mexico. He married the love of his life, Peggy Ortega. They had three beautiful children: Betty Jo Ortega Ridge (Robert), Joseph Ortega, Chris Ortega (Lydia). They made their life in Wyoming and later moved to Roswell, NM. Raymond’s favorite moments were spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, especially seeing them all laugh. Raymond was a hard worker who always provided for his family. Prior to retirement, he worked as a baker and for the Highway Department for many years. He loved watching Matlock and going to bingo. The Denver Broncos were his favorite pro-football team. Raymond was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, not only by his family and friends, but by all those blessed to have known him. SURVIVORS: Those left to treasure and cherish memories of Raymond are: his loving wife of sixty-five years, Peggy Ortega; children: Betty Jo Ortega Ridge (Robert), Chris Ortega (Lydia); grandchildren: Kazira Ridge (Brandon Mansfield), Jerrad Ridge (Jill), Aysia Pirtle (Cliff), Camra Ridge, Joni Wolfswinkel (Shawn), Cathy Pacheco, Shyanne Schaffino (Irving), Y’yoming Ortega; great-grandchildren: Kilee, Kody, Everly, Lincoln, Liam, Zeke, Hamish, Dorothea, Daniella, Aaliyah, Sarayah, Nikylah, Josiah, Edwin, and Lucas, Mila; and sister, Nash Ortega. PRECEDED: Preceding Raymond in death: his parents, Rudolpho and Manuelita Torrez Ortega; his son, Joseph Ortega; grandson, Little Jay (Joey) De Herrera; brothers: Anastacio (Tacho) Ortega, Richard Ortega, Jose (Tarzan) Ortega; sisters: Oralia Tafoya, Rose Ortiz. The family wishes to give special “Thanks” to Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and Casa Maria Health Care Center for making us feel like family.
