Obituary for Reyes P. Herrera Under Picture – Daddy, We will miss you and love you always A rosary will be recited for Reyes P. Herrera of Roswell at 7 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Reyes at 10 am Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at St. John’s with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Reyes passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Reyes was born on January 21, 1930 to Filomeno Herrera and Blacita Peralez Herrera in Tinnie, NM. He served his country during the Korean War with the United States Air Force, reaching the rank of Airman Third Class. Reyes married the love of his life, Amelia Jimenez, on November 30, 1956 at St. John’s; Amelia preceded Reyes in death on March 4, 2007. Reyes was a devote Catholic, and a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to hunt, fish, spend time in the outdoors, go to the casino, and be with his family. His greatest past time was his music, to play guitar, saxophone, and any instrument he picked up he could play. Reyes loved to help other people to offer rides, money, you need it he had it – it became yours. Reyes is survived by four sons, Francisco Herrera, Hernando Herrera, Lorenzo Herrera, and Reyes Herrera Jr.; four daughters, Ermelinda Wylie, Yolanda Herrera, Christina Rodriguez, and Blacita Gomez; sons-in-law, Ted Gomez, Fernando Rodriguez, and Mike Wylie; daughters-in-law, Angie Herrera and Carol Loredo Herrera; grandchildren, Martin Herrera, Marcelina Sheriff, Felicia Herrera, Sheila Herrera, Senaida Milliron and her husband, David, Serena Herrera, Hernando Herrera Jr., Patricia Herrera, Lydia Jean Leslie, Reyes Cruz, Jaclyn, Analycia and Andrew Herrera, Javier, Blanca, Reyes, Miguel and Domingo Alonso, Audra Herrera, Paul Anthony Fajardo, Danny Gonzalez II, Danielle Gonzalez, Eric Sanchez, Robert Mason, Xavyr Herrera, Santiago, Nathan Ray and Jo Nicholas Aguilar; great-grandchildren, Santiago Emanuel, Evangelina Inez, and Danika Anissa Herrera, Bradyn Milliron, Gabrielle Rene and Isacc Herrera, Azaliyah Gonzalez, Miguel Reyes Alonso, Natalie Marie Hall, Destiny Marie Gonzalez, Jazmen Sheriff, Desmond Fajardo, Zariya Sheriff, and two on the way; brothers and sisters, Lupe Herrera of Datil, NM, Linda Rothman and her husband, Joe (Air Force Retired), of San Antonio, TX, Jose B. Herrera of Pecos, TX, Hermina Casillas of Pecos, TX, Emma Briones and her husband, Thomas, of Phoenix, AZ, and Filimeno B. Herrera and his wife, Mariana, of Fort Worth, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife, Amelia, Reyes was preceded in death by his parents, Filimeno and Blacita P. Herrera, a brother, Hernando B. Herrera, grandson, Francisco Rey Herrera, and granddaughter, Selina Marie Herrera, The family would like to thank Roswell Home Care and Hospice for their care of our Dad. The family would like to offer many thanks to those who visited and spent time with our dad, putting aside their jobs and spent countless precious time to stand by dad’s side, to talk, to listen, or hold his hand. Special thanks to Barbara (his nurse aide), Ramon Melendez and Edward and Terrance Hoogerhuis. Our dad made an impact on many people’s lives those he knew for a long period of time and those he barely knew. During a visit by Lee Bolanos, of Adult Protective Service, he made a life altering statement to Lee. Dad said, “Me gusta tu estillo” (I like your style). Lee brought him two cd’s (of golden oldies) which Daddy listened to for many hours receiving a peace. He was listening to them when he went home to heaven to meet the Lord and his love, Amelia. Pallbearers will be Xavyr Herrera, Hernando Herrera Jr., Miguel, Reyes, and Domingo Alonso, Reyes Cruz Herrera, Danny Gonzalez II, Andrew Herrera and Martin Herrera. Honorary pallbearers will be Francisco, Hernando, Lorenzo and Jimmy Montano, Javier Alonso, Reyes Herrera Jr. and Lupe Herrera.
