Robert Matta, 67, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please leave a kind thought or memory with Robert’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. There will be a Visitation on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at McBride Cemetery. Robert Matta was born on November 13, 1958, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Cecilia Gonzales and Fred Matta. He grew up in Roswell and graduated from Goddard High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. During his service, he completed his training to become a registered nurse, a profession that became a lifelong calling. After being honorably discharged, Robert returned home to Roswell, where he began his nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital. He remained there for many years until its closure, after which he continued his dedicated work at Sunrise and later at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. His compassion, steady presence, and commitment to caring for others touched countless lives throughout his career. Robert married the love of his life, Linda Vigil, on April 13, 1981. Together they built a family filled with love and laughter, raising their children: April, Bobby, and Steve. Their home later grew to include many grandchildren, each one cherished deeply. After Linda’s passing, Robert continued to guide and support their family with strength and devotion. He was a man of simple joys and a heart of gold, known for his love of Diet Dr. Pepper, the loyal companionship of his dog Yoda, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, watching TV with his grandkids, and living out his Catholic faith. Robert brought comfort, humor, and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His absence leaves a deep and lasting emptiness in the hearts of all who loved him. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed or how greatly he was loved. Until we meet again at the golden gates, may Robert and Linda watch over their family as guardian angels, guiding them with the same love they shared in life. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Robert are his children: April Matta, Bobby Matta, and Steve Matta; grandchildren: Crystal Matta, Emilio Orozco, Faith Orozco, Sophia Matta, and many others; siblings: Amanda Matta, Louisa Matta, Edward Montantez, Gabriel Gonzales, Patsy Montantez, and Cris Arreola; many friends; and his beloved dog, Yoda. Robert is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Vigil; parents: Cecilia Gonzales and Fred Matta; brother, Ricky Arreola. Blessed to be chosen as an honorary pallbearer is Sophia Matta. Those honored to serve as Pallbearers are Bobby Matta, Emilio Orozco, Steve Matta, Luis Orozco, Faith Orozco, and Edward Montontez. Robert’s tribute was lovingly written by his family.
