Roberto G. Chavez

Roberto G. Chavez, age 64, passed away at his home in Roswell, NM, on December 8, 2016. Roberto was born June 27, 1952, in Puerto de Luna, NM, to Isidro & Petra Chavez. Roberto married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Romero of Santa Rosa, NM, on June 26, 1971. Together, they had two children, Betty Renee and Robert Enrico. Their lives together, took them to El Paso, TX, as well as Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming. They later settled in Roswell, NM, in the fall of 1980, where they made their permanent home. Throughout his early years, he served in the US Army and Army National Guard (1971-1984). Roberto also worked as a truck driver and a Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Deputy. He worked in various oil fields as a general dirt contractor in Wyoming and New Mexico with Pruitt Construction. When settled in Roswell, he worked, owned, and operated his own businesses; as a heavy equipment operator for 18 years, until he retired in July, 1998. He is preceded in death by his father, Isidro Chavez and sister, Betty Chavez. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; mother, Petra; daughter, Renee and husband, Ivan Chavarin; son, Robert and wife, Julie Chavez. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Thomas Torrez and wife, Jackie, Ysabel Torrez, Nicholas Torrez, Samantha Chavez, Gabrielle Torrez, Dominic Chavez, Gabriel Chavez, Maddox Chavez, Danielle Chavarin and Michelle Chavrin; two great-grandchildren: “Mikey” Gunn and “Lily” Gunn; six brothers and sisters: Richard Chavez and wife, Peggy, Leroy Chavez and wife, Rose, Ramie Chavez, Mary Ann Clevenger and husband, Rusty, Martin Chavez, Christine Chavez and husband, Mike. He is also survived by beloved in-laws: Diana and Andy Urban, Louie and Grace Romero, and Christine and Vincent Castillo; countless nieces and nephews and over 25 God-children. Roberto was an adventurer, avid hunter and fisherman and felt most alive when he was outdoors among nature. “He taught me to have humor in the face of adversity. He taught me to be brave when I’m scared. He taught me to be selfless when those I love are in need. He taught me how to shoot and took me on adventurers I’ll never forget. I’m so blessed to have had a man like him in my life. Rest easy Grandpa, I love you forever.” By Samantha Chavez Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2016, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Chapel. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, December 14, 2016, 10:00 AM at St John the Baptist Catholic Church followed by a Mass celebration at 11:00 AM. Obituary was lovingly written by Roberto’s family.
