Ronald Flynn Wood

Ronald Flynn Wood was born July 23, 1945 in Clovis, NM. He, along with his two sisters, Melba Jo (Jody) and Donna, and brother, Jerry, were raised southeast of Dora, NM by his parents, Adron and Bonnie Wood. Ronnie attended Dora Schools, where he played sports and participated in FFA. One of his greatest accomplishments during high school was building his dad a stock trailer to use on the farm. Adron never had to borrow a trailer from a neighbor again. Ronnie lived most of his life in Roosevelt County, where he was involved in agriculture and dairy farming. While living there, his sons were born, Jeffery Lance Wood and Adron Shayne Wood. In 1979, Ronnie moved to Roswell and married Chari Chunn and lived there for the remainder of his life. During his life, Ronnie was also known as Ron, Big “R”, Dad, Pop to friends and family. Ronnie enjoyed various occupations during his life, which included crop and dairy farming, construction, and wood working. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and gardening. His two greatest loves were Jesus and his family. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, he also was very active in his church. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Adron Murrel Wood; his mother, Bonnie Lois Helmer; his brother, Jerry Wood and his sister, Jody Warren. Ronnie is survived by his wife of 34 years, Chari Wood of Roswell; son, Jeff Wood and wife, Dona of Dexter; son, Shayne Wood and wife, Suzy of Artesia, NM; son, Wade Butts of Farmington, NM; son Miller Butts and wife, Alberta of Roswell; daughter, Charni Durham and husband, Teddy of Ruidoso, NM; sister Donna Tivis and husband, Wayne of Causey, NM; fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church in Roswell, NM, a place that Ronnie helped to build and teach God’s word. He will be laid to rest Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 3:30 PM at Elida Cemetery in Elida, NM. Pallbearers will be Shayne Wood, Jeff Wood, Miller Butts, Wade Butts, Jason Butts, Blake Inge, Wayne Tivis, and Tex Belcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete DeBorde, Tony LeMoine, Dick Harp, Joe Archibald, Troy Teague, Coy Smith, Lanny Gresham, Clovie Chunn, and Roger Woods. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Chaves County Casa Program, 500 N. Main St., Suite 310, P.O. Box 2131, Roswell, NM 88201.We love and miss you, POP.
