Rosa Montoya Nunez

Rosa Montoya Nunez, 98, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family Monday, October 20, 2025, in Midway, NM A viewing will be held at Anderson Bethany on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9am-11am with a Rosary to start at 11am and service following directly after. On August 20, 1927, Rosa was born to Leopardo and Martinita Montoya in Capitan, NM. She married the love of her life Fred Nunez on April 16, 1949. Together they had 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys. After retiring from Tobosa, Rosa followed her passion for cooking and hospitality by opening Rosa’s Café in Roswell, NM. There she poured her love into every meal and welcomed friends new and old with her warm heart and homemade dishes. She cherished every person who walked through the doors until she closed the café in 1997. Above all, Rosa’s greatest joy in life was her children who remained the light of her world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Rosa’s grandson, Gabriel Samario, for his devoted love and care throughout her final years. His patience and unwavering presence brought her comfort and joy each day. They would also like to thank Olga Pequeno whose loving care and special touch always made Rosa feel beautiful and cherished. The family is also deeply thankful for the Gentiva hospice nurses and caregivers who provided such compassionate care and kindness during her final days. Their support and love will never be forgotten. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents to Leopardo and Martinita Montoya, siblings Josephine, Lucia, and Stella, Fermin, Max, and Eddy, and grandchildren Nikki Montoya and Frankie Samario, Carrie Montoya, and great grandchildren Unique Samario, Dominic Pena, Aryana Pena. She leaves behind her 8 children Freddie (Sylvia) and their children Jolene, and Brandon, Bobby (late wife Angie) and their children Ryan, Olivia, Jeremy, and Robert, Lorena (late husband Greg) and their children Sandra, Johnny, and Rene, Lillian (Roy) and their children Kristine and Anthony, Martha (Dennis) and their children Stephanie, Austin, and Gabriel, Camilo (Melissa) and their children Camille, Camilo, Krista, Michael, Clarissa, and Nate, Mary and her children Joshua, Jessica, and Dona, Eddie and his children Erik, Vanessa, Kayla, Robbie, as well as 3 generations of great grandkids. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are grandsons Gabriel Samario, Nathan Esquibel, Xavier Valdez, Joshua Nunez, Austin Edwards and Erik Nunez. A lunch will be provided at the Serenity Club directly following the service.
