Ruby Gladys Austin

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruby Gladys Austin, 51, who was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. There will be a Viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1, 2018, 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:30 PM. On August 27, 1967, Ruby was born to Robert (Bobby) Freeman Sr. and Espanola (Esther) Robinson in Roswell, NM. In 1983, she would travel back and forth to Texas to spend time with her family. There Ruby met the love of her life, Scott. Over the next few years, the couple grew together until officially tying the knot on July 3, 1997. The Austin’s chose to make Roswell, NM, their home, where they would raise their family. Ruby received her degree at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell in Child Development, where she graduated with highest honors. For the next twenty plus years, she spent dedicated, as a fervent caregiver, to children and adults with special needs. Ruby had a real passion for her work. Many in the community can vouch for that. She lived life to the fullest, making lasting, never dull impressions on every person she came across. Ruby enjoyed drawing, dancing (especially having dance battles), listening to music and spending time with family. When it came to looks, she had a jaw-dropping appearance. Ruby definitely had an eye for fashion and make-up. You couldn’t catch Ruby G. without the perfect “fit,” always dressed to impress. Such a beauty! We will always remember her as beautiful, crazy, hilarious, even more, so loving and giving. We are grateful to have had the honor of having her a part of our lives. Those left to carry on Ruby’s memory and legacy are her adored husband, Scott Austin of Texas; two sons: Seth Kellum of Roswell, NM, and Demitrike Davis of Roswell, NM; only daughter, Ania Austin of Texas; sister, Eloise Harrison of Louisiana; and brother, Bobby Freeman Jr. of Roswell, NM. Ruby also had a special role with her niece, Jolene Rocha of Carlsbad, NM; nephews: Dante Freeman of San Antonio, TX and Nathaniel Freeman of Carlsbad, NM; and many grandchildren, who she loved so dearly! Additional survivors include numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding Ruby in death were both parents, Robert (Bobby) Freeman Sr. and Espanola (Esther) Robinson. Those chosen to serve as Pallbearers will be: Bobby Freeman Jr., Nathaniel Freeman, Daniel Freeman, Allen Austin Jr., Timothy Robertson, and Mike Brumlow. Honorary Pallbearers are: Seth Kellum and Demitrike Davis. A reception will follow Ruby’s services at Hope Family Church of God, 1601 McGaffey St., Roswell, NM.
