Santiago Zavala Flores, 41, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. There will be a Viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John’s Church on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. On January 2, 1983, Santiago was born to his father, Eliseo Zavala Rodriguez and mother, Maria Guadalupe Zavala in Roswell, New Mexico. Prior to his passing, Santiago worked at Wakefield Oil for more than twenty years, his kind personality led him to meet a lot of his friends there. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed staying home and watching boxing, baseball, and soccer. His favorite soccer team was Las Chivas. He played soccer for Mesa Middle School and Roswell High School. On the weekends, Santiago liked to do cookouts with his family and liked going to the casino. He loved to visit family in Guanajuato, Mexico, and come back home and tell his parents and siblings about his trips. Santiago was the most selfless person we knew, he always put others before himself without expecting anything in return. These last couple of years were hard for him but he would still help anyone he could with a smile on his face. Santiago will be missed by his family and friends. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Santiago are his parents: Eliseo Zavala Rodriguez and Maria Guadalupe Zavala; siblings: Jose G. Zavala (Lizett Zavala), Eliseo Zavala Jr. (Margarita Adame), Rocio Zavala Flores, and Leticia Zavala Flores; many aunts, uncles and cousins in Guanajuato, Mexico, Aurora, Illinois, Indiana, and Roswell, New Mexico; nephews: Emilio J. Zavala, Dominic E. Zavala, Eliseo A Zavala III, and Baby Smith; and nieces: Alannah Mairot and Esmeralda A. Zavala; close friends: Mando Soto and Dulce Gonzalez; and co-workers at Wakefield Oil; pets: Daisy, Kamilla, Zeus, Rubee, Bella, and Luna. Santiago is preceded in death by his grandparents: Adeodato Zavala Guzman, Isidra Rodriguez Villanueva, and Alicia Nino Lopez; uncles: Adolfo Zavala, Jose Flores Nino; and aunt: Ofelia Zavala. Blessed to be chosen as an Honorary Pallbearer is Leticia Zavala Flores. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Jose G. Zavala, Eliseo Zavala Jr, Rocio Zavala Flores, Emilio J. Zavala, Adolfo Zavala Jr, Leroy Smith III, Angel Zavala, and Fernando Valdez. The family of Santiago wishes to extend sincere thanks to the medical staff that cared for Santiago at Mountain View Hospital.
