Sharon Joy Brinker

Sharon Joy Brinker, 86, passed away on February 10, 2025, in Granbury, Texas. Please take a moment to share a kind thought or memory with Sharon’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. Sharon was born to Carl and Nadine Shannon on December 14, 1938, in Roswell, NM. She was the third child born to the family. Her family farmed in Roswell, with all three children working the fields of the family farm. Sharon married Doyen H. Brinker, Sr. of Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, NM, on December 16, 1956, at 16 years old. They had three children, Aquilla (J Brock), Melissa, and Doyen, Jr. "Jim" (Dayla "DeeDee"). Sharon became a leader with the NCO wives club at Walker AFB and then at Clinton Sherman AFB in Oklahoma. During her time in Oklahoma, she not only was an Air Force wife, but she also became a Girl Scout leader and a foster parent to several children. With the Vietnam War in full swing, the family was transferred to a Strategic Air Command base, Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana. During this time Sharon worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone making telephones and Globe Discount City as a Dept. Supervisor, to help support her family while Doyen, Sr. was deployed overseas. During Mr. Brinker’s extended tour to Korea, the family moved back to Roswell, where Sharon became a member of Tabernacle Baptist church. After the war ended, the family was sent to Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock, TX. Sharon started working for Purolator Courier services as a driver. She worked for them for many years and ended her working career driving a school bus for special needs children. Sharon is predeceased by her parents, brother, Charles D. Shannon; sister, Donna N. Moore; daughter, Melissa Ann Brinker; granddaughter, Sheri Ann Brinker. Sharon is survived by daughter Aquilla H. Brock (Jack), son Doyen H. Brinker, Jr. “Jim” (DeeDee). Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many family members, and friends will miss her. Her little companion, Mac, and Betty Harmon, her best friend. Honored to be pallbearers are Sharon's grandchildren and great-grandson, Christi Brinker, Amanda Brock, Dustin Brock, Chance Brinker, Brik Brinker, and Brenden Brinker. A viewing will be held on Friday February 14, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.
