Socorro Gomez

A rosary will be recited for Socorro Saenz Gomez, 78, of Roswell at 7 pm Sunday, February 24, 2008, at St. John’s Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at St. John’s with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Socorro passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Socorro was born on January 20, 1930 to Cayetano Saenz and Micaela Madrid Saenz in Mulato, Mexico. She and Leonardo Gomez were married Aug. 13, 1947 in Mulato; Leonardo passed away Oct. 19, 1986. Socorro was a member of St. John’s, a Crusillista, a member of the Alive in Christ Prayer Group, and 12:00 o’clock Mass Choir, and a Eucharistic Minister. She loved to sing, enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, and spending time with her family. She took great pride in her family and would gather the eggs from her chickens and sharing them with others. Socorro is survived by her eight children, Luis Gomez and his wife, Dorothy, of Roswell, Grace Miscavage and her husband, John, Virginia Romero and her husband, George, both of Dexter, Nellie De Los Santos and her husband, Rudy, of Roswell, Agnes Beauford and her husband, Jeff, of Fort Worth, TX, Oscar Gomez and his wife, Arlene, of Plano, TX, Albert Gomez and his wife, Muchelle, of Wylie, TX, and Alfred Gomez and his wife, Tina, of Roswell; a brother, Abel Saenz of Ojinaga, Mexico; three sisters, Angela Bustamante of Odessa, TX, Ana Stewart of Georgetown, TX, and Ludivina Rodriguez of Hagerman; twenty grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; adopted daughter, Bonnie Arias; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. In addition to her husband, Leonardo, Socorro was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and her parents. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Evan Nelson, the staff at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, three special nurses, Blanca, Theresa, and Samantha, and to Angie Navarez, her hair dresser. Pallbearers will be George Romero Jr., Aaron Delos Santos, Louie J. Gomez, John Gregory Miscavage, Christopher Gomez, and Eric Gomez. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Gomez, Ryan Delos Santos, Lenny Romero, Connor Beauford, Adam Jaramillo, and the rest of her grandchildren. The family will be receiving friends at 6523 Y O Road before the services.
