Sonya Linda Olivas

Sonya Linda Olivas, 47, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, in Roswell, New Mexico. There will be a viewing held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with a rosary to start at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held the following day, Friday, May 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Immaculate Conception Church, located at 400 West 6th Street, in Dexter, New Mexico. With an interment to follow at South Park Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the Presbyterian Church Hall located at 201 West 5th Street, Dexter, New Mexico, 88230. On July 24, 1977, Sonya was born to Beatrice Najar and Freddie Olivas in Roswell, New Mexico. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and sister-in-law. Sonya is survived by the love of her life for 29 years, Mario Olivas; her children, Serena Morales, Brianna Olivas (Jennifer) and Zekiel Olivas; siblings, Lisa, Juanita, Charlotte, and Jerry; step-brothers, Michael, Fabian, Esteban, Bibi; two grandchildren, Martin and Isidro; step father, Vicente Vargas; paternal grandmother, Lupe Olivas; in-laws, Lazaro and Lydia Olivas, Rosalinda (Jose), David (Petra), and Dora (Tino). She had many nephews, nieces, and cousins from both sides of the family that she loved very much. Sonya is preceded in death by her son, Mario Zion Olivas Jr.; her mother, Beatrice Najar Vargas; grandparents, Dolores and Juan Najar, and Alfredo Olivas; brother-in-law, Fernando Torres; uncles, Cuco Olivas; brother, David Olivas; nephew, Cris Olivas Moreno; and cousin, Israel Olivas. Sonya grew up in Roswell and Dexter. She was a very loving person, who was always happy with a big smile. She loved to dance, joke around with the family, loved cruising around Dexter, listening to music, and she loved being with her husband, Mario, and her kids. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Fernando Torres Jr II, Brianna Olivas, Lorenzo Moreno Jr., Fabian Moreno, Luis Olivas, Miguel Torres, Frankie Meads, Serena Morales. Honorary pallbearers include Lazaro Olivas, Anthony Fame Cobos, Zekiel Olivas, David Olivas, Lori Olivas, and Johnny Olivas. He will wipe every tear from their eyes And there will be no more death Nor sorrow Nor crying Nor pain.
