Obituary for Steve Hernandez II Rancher Steve went home to the Lord on Saturday, March 8, 2008, with all his family present after a long battle with Parkinson’s at the age of 80. Steve was a resident of Chaves county since 2006 after moving from his beloved home in Hondo, NM., where he was born and raised. He worked at Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club for twenty years in Alto, NM. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Esteban and Miquela Hernandez, two sisters, Connie Montes and Annie Gutierrez, two brothers, Tony and Charlie Hernandez, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Steve is survived by his cherished wife of fifty-two years, Priscilla Mirabal Hernandez; his two daughters, Gloria Baca and Irene Trujillo; two sons, Steve Hernandez III, and Santiago Hernandez; four grandchildren, Bill and Joseph Trujillo, and Steven and Heidi Hernandez; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Patsy Guajaca of Roswell, Lucy Montes and her husband, Junior, of Alamogordo, NM, and Helen Aragon of Albuquerque; four brothers, Albert Hernandez and his wife, Isabel, of Carrizozo, NM, Mike Hernandez and his wife, Pilar, of Ruidoso, Bill Hernandez and his wife, Betty, of Alamogordo, and Joe Hernandez and his wife, Viola, of Hondo, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was a man of much faith in our Lord. He knew no strangers and lived life to the fullest. He was featured by Dan Storm on his Ruidoso radio show whistling bird melodies. Steve was known through out the surrounding area. Working with livestock, training horses, roping, hunting with his sons, grandsons, and friends, and gardening were only some of the things he loved so much.. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home. The resurrection mass will be celebrated at 10 am Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Sanchez, Rueben Romero, David Garcia, Joe Torres, Joe Louis Gutierrez, and David Miranda.
